  • Aren't there over 50 variants of the Black Bay now?

  • Yup, just counted on the Tudor web site. 52 different sizes and styles.

  • Makes the Tudor look expensive.

Right, and it makes the Seamaster look butters.

Definitely shows why Omega divers aren't popular.

My 2p, the Black Bay 58 is on-point. Case size may be a preference thing, but imo thickness/thinness shows some proper thought and investment.

  • 52 different sizes and styles.

    Waits for the BB53.

  • Good choice.

I would have to go for red n gold tho. šŸ˜Ž

  • Its the thinness of the 58 that has got my smaller wristed watch collecting friends excited.

The Black Bay 58 is as close to a perfectly proportioned watch as you get imho. I really love my 79220n though.

  • That Omega looks like what the rich kid wore to school. In the 90s.

  • We sell far more seamaster 300 than Black Bay , so they are popular. I'm not having a pop at the Black Bay ( I have a 79220N like @Stonehedge one ) it just isn't in the same league as that Omega.
    In my opinion.
But , Omega has the lovely Co-axial movement a microadjust clasp and a ceramic bezel.
And known provenance with regards to resale.

  • Its worth pointing out that the Seamaster 300 is an impressive watch in terms of quality of finish, even if it is a very acquired taste. Its a watch I appreciate, even if I do think it is fugly.

  • I was surprised how much I liked some of the Omega divers in the flesh at Schipol the other week, especially the smaller ones.

  • This. The Seamaster 300 in particular doesn't look great in photos compared to real life.

  • Like I said I have a Tudor like yours , but this is what Iā€™m wearing today.
Slim for a diver and absolutely bulletproof.

  • TBH the thickness of modern watches, especially dive watches, is a bit of a pet peeve.

I get it with something like a Deepsea, which is all about testing the limits. But otherwise, why are they all so thick? To hit a +200m depth more easily? <13mm is a nice height for a sports watch, and something like the Tudor GMT at 15mm just seems way too high...

...but maybe it's just because I wear shirts most days.

@ejay2.0 - sorry didn't realise it was your personal one, and I wasn't trying to be mean.

  • Its mostly the thickness of the mass produced cheaper movements that affect thickness in designs I think.

A Valjoux 7750 is 8mm thick before you've even slapped a dial and case on it...

  • Which is why it's such a bugbear. Fine on a Steinhart, but disappointing from the big brands.

  • You should see the state of my Longines Master. Sure, its a full moonphase quadruple retrograde in house movement but to cram all that into a watch for less than Ā£3k they ended up with a watch that is 16mm thick!

  • Yeah woops. Bit harsh on a personal item. It is still a v tired design. Will prob look the shit in 20 years. šŸ˜Ž

I guess Stone Island is back in. So y not.

  • I know no harm intended , the first pic is a stock new Seamaster and the second pic is my 2005 version.
If you don't like the thickness of modern "desk divers " thats exactly why the Seamaster 300 is one of my faves.
It is much slimmer than most others , certainly Black Bay and also Planet Ocean , yet is still water resist to 300 m / has Helium release valve . And it's not a "prissy" or weekend warrior watch people actually use them.
I know I have the Mr Omega reputation but I fucking love mine .

  • Slim watch

Yep - that watch has really really grown on me recently and I'd definitely take one over a BB58 if given the choice. My girlfriend's dad has the 36mm black last gen version and it really is superb in the flesh and incredibly comfortable. Relatively cheap here in the U.S. pre-owned too. Am very tempted...

The new version with display case back is fantastic too but a bit burly at 42.5mm.

  • Have this arriving in next few days. Impulse purchase...

  • All this Tudor chat... Iā€™m torn between the BB58 and a vintage mini-sub... I like smaller watches... anyone got a mini-sub for sale?
