I loved the thread on STW about midfoot
Ha, I've read that
I did try drilling an old pair of shoes a couple of cm back, to help relieve the metatarsal pain I was getting, but didn't really get on with it

I recently got a pair of these, as they were on sale, but I've only used them on the turbo so far

If I ever get around to checking off a solo 24hr I will be trying those long pedals, Catalyst with normal shoes. https://bigchaps.com/products/catalyst-pedal
But for now it's 95% on-road so I reckon a race XC shoe is what I'm after, just with midfoot SPD potential. I'll have a look at the LAKE sizing and see if Scherrit has any. He used to have some I'm sure.

fwiw, the sizing chart seems pretty accurate

What did you pay for them?
Never used BOA. Don't like the look of it. It definitely seems like something I'd break.

Everyone laughed at Sam Hill when he wore a skinsuit for downhill.
He crushed their windpipes from sonic boom as he rode past...

I ordered directly from that website, and they were £160.18 delivered

Yep found that. Just need to do something with it. Any idea what the Shimano road -> MTB sizing comparison is like? I normally wear 47 in Shimano road (48 winter boots for thicker socks). Guess I could just buy some and deal with returns.

I had Shimanos in a 52 wide. Both pairs of Lakes I got are 50 wide. The Lakes are a couple of cm shorter, and about 5mm wider

No wonder you like mountain biking...

Just to note that the 'competition fit' carbon shoes in wide, are closer in fit to the 'race fit' soles in extra wide
Or let Scherrit worry about it...

I've got a pair of the Giro Privateer MTB shoes in wide fit. Good shoes, comfy, can walk in them, used them for everything from DHing to endurance stuff to road riding. They just work. Looking at the bottom of mine, you have space to drill holes further back than standard - the sole's material is certainly thick enough. Also not stupid expensive.

I've watched that quite a few times. Also

Talking of wide fit shoes I have a pair of white Sidi Dragon Mega's in 44 that I'll be putting up for sale soon enough. Used just once but unfortunately I didn't get on with them.

Going to ride Forest of Dean tomorrow.
Should I go casual enduro with an open face and goggles or full enduro with full face?
This is more than an aesthetic question as I might really need a full face as I rode like a knob end today. One of many incidents today was riding offtrail on an easy section and going straight into a sapling, then hilarious (to my mates) OTB.

One for the flat pedal shredders:
OneUp Composite pedals on eBay, new, for £20 (normally £40+). Yes, I checked you get a pair.
They got some very good reviews, interested to try em out. -
