We're looking to get a deck built in our front garden, not something I have the time or skills to diy. Does anyone have any recommendations for a landscape gardener/builder/deck builder in SE?

I thought I'd check what I was doing ...
Is this right?
Should the gap be smaller?

Yes it should

Could that be sold as art?

I looked into this a couple of years ago. Most London-based outfits seemed very expensive to me. I ended up doing it myself and it was a lot easier than I expected, saved about £1500 and used hardwood (balau) from this place: https://www.roundwood.com. Great service. How big is the deck you are planning?

Have a window with a curtain over it. Missus wants to install a blind instead. Blind would sit within the window cavity rather than covering the whole area outside it like the curtain does.
Is the blind going to block as much light? I can't see it being possible unless you can get blinds to fit SUPER close to the window cavity edges. Thoughts?
ie. this shit: https://www.blinds.com/blog/how-to-block-light-from-the-sides-of-blinds/

still makes a big difference, still allows some light through. is the goal total blackout?

It's in the bedroom so I would prefer dark as possible. She could sleep with a fucking searchlight aimed at her face.

• #16589
Yes, "fucking searchlight" is what I call my penis.

These things look like they'll work:
https://www.blocblinds.co.uk/window_blinds/blocout_infoSeems pretty dark in the video. Assume they'll fail to work as soon as the first bike tyre hits it though...

Get these and make sure they cover a bit around the window.
These are also the same stuff as the ones you linked too, all depends on window shape/size as to how well they will fit.

We use a combination of blackout blinds from Ikea and a blackout curtain.
The ceiling is painted a deep brownish-purple and the walls are dark green.
Yes, we're vampires. -

We have these https://www.johnlewis.com/house-by-john-lewis-blackout-roller-blind-white/white/p3198140
Plus curtains.It’s pretty dark.

• #16595
Yes, there shouldn't be a gap. But if unavoidable can be covered by the central support.

@hippy I use these in a bay window (so similar situation in terms of no overlap). although there is visible light round the edges, the extent to which they let ambient light in is minimal. you can see that there is light outside, but unless you are particularly fussy, they're absolutely fine. They let it considerably less light than that (albeit shit) curtains they replaced.

We have blinds in all the upstairs rooms plus curtains. Light elimination is great. Ikea cellular blackout blind I think.
@stevo_com Yep, closed it up. The picture was from the "test" with the rod offcut. Of course, they line up perfectly. The real thing is a bit wonky.
still. curtain is up now...in other news, I have a 3m curtain track thing. You pull the cord, the curtain goes along it.
Looks modular. Any one?
Before I bin it. -

It's very restful.
A friend likens it to sleeping in a coffin. -

Thoughts?
Blinds aren't as good at blocking drafts.
If you have double glazing then it won't matter that much. If not it will.
That drill would push a carrot though concrete
