That looks great. Tempted by both this and the Model 1.

For those posting watches, what service do you use? Most seem to get fairly pricey once you add insurance (£300 or so value).

Special Delivery in an oversized box (like, shoe box size) cos I’m neurotic AF.
-
• #32705
Trust me, even insured, you'll morn the theft of a watch.

I’m still mourning the loss of my Zenith Defy from SPECIAL DELIVERY mail.
I have to think that people who have contact with the mail will be more inclined to steal Special Delivery mail as the chances are it contains something valuable.

It's very hard to steal SD packages.
-
• #32708
Yeah. A SD package disappears I'd be straight on with a PO claim.
-
• #32709
It’s not. I have quite a bit of knowledge of this subject.

My jeweller paid out for my watch. He had sent it for service. He was great but money does not compensate for the loss as it was my 21 birthday present from my parents. It was also my daily wearer.
-
• #32711
Yeah, annoying. They're the best ones, just too short.

I have been in a Royal Mail sorting office and it looked very difficult to me.
-

I will not be going into details but it is shockingly easy. Some RM processes do not help either.

I am planning to post a watch soon in a glasses case then in another box, special delivery. Has huge sentimental value to me, would hate to see it not arrive. Isn't the service tracked so RM could identify where it went missing? If a parcel is special delivery with a watch shop's address on it, that advertises to whoever could interfere that there's a roughly £1-2.5k watch in there surely?

Watch shops sell Swatch and they sell Rolex...
-
• #32717
Well I’m pretty sure you can send SD for around £8 for a lightweight box, and probably would, yea. Minimum would be Signed-For, but anything over £40 is SD for me. Although if someone wants to steal they will steal, but at least with SD you are pretty much guaranteed a payout if not locating the parcel, as its time in the system is shorter and logged at each point.

Having resigned myself to not buying a JLC Mk 11, I was tempted to take a punt on one on eBay when it was at 2k. It went for over 5k, so that took the sting out of having missed the end of the auction.

U know SD is insured right? They ask u value before classification....
-
• #32720
You would need to ask RM about the tracking.

New hands on old face.
Nice watches.

Uhhhhmmmmmmm? Yes?

Just for the sake of it, I'm gonna dredge up why we were talking about Alkin at all.
At a time where most big brands are using celebrity to paint pictures of grandeur to sell their products and while smaller and newer brands are doing what they can to sell mostly uninspiring watches under an umbrella of false heritage, I really enjoy supporting projects such as Alkin.
Slightly quirky watches with good build quality and no pretensions whatsoever are something that we need more of in horology. Don't build fake heritage, earn it. Your watches will sell if you genuinely try to do that.
I'm not saying I'm becoming a watch collecting anarchist. I'm just getting really sick of all this #dare2be #eleganceisanattitude #watchesformen froth with hundreds of insta posts of glamorous men and women and contrived photos of benches of watch tools.

Alkin is @Stonehedge approved which is why I’m all shut up and take my money.

Don't listen to me mate. I know fuck all.
Plenty of people on this thread who know more about watches than me. Most people, probably.
I think I understand. Maybe solid hands could be an option for a future run.
