Haha, yes, I really felt pretty stupid this morning when I realized you can't use a steerer tube mounted cable hanger when using canti's on suspension forks. :)
I choose the canti's as I really wanted the Ritchey Logic canti's. These are so iconic and were still used in 1996.
About the tires: skinwalls look best so I think I'll look for a set skinwalled Z Max WCS.

Just so everyone is on the same page, as @brucy suggests, the hanger needs to be isolated from the suspension and so mounted on the blue brace of the lowers rather than the crown.
Personally, I'm not a fan of the asethetics. There is a reason most sus forks run V brakes....
Edit: just seen most early sids were only drilled on the lower brace, so looks like you'll be fine. Still, are you going cantis cos that's what's in the parts bin?
