Nice patronising letter from May to Corbyn.
"I can't rule out no deal. Let me explain why."
Then goes on to explain how she could but doesn't want to.

"Asked to identify areas where compromise might be possible, May’s spokesman pointed to workers’ rights and environmental protections."
It's a farce. Worse. She simply refuses to engage.

She reminds me of a dithering version of Thatcher at the moment, without the steely carapace.

I heard of somebody described as being able to suck the chrome off a tow bar recently. Made me chuckle.

Hard Brexit just needs nothing to be achieved in the next two months. Our proud record of achieving absolutely fuck all for two whole years gives me every confidence we can step up our achieving-nothing game and nail this last play.
Thanks Dave.

Not everyone will agree with the tone of this article but it sums up a lot of the concerns I have about a second referendum.

The solution to the Norn Iron / RoI border is easy - BUILD A WALL! I am surprised no one has suggested this yet. I’m sure I read about another lunatic politician (giving far to much credit to him using that term) mention this in another country.

I’ve been out of this thread for a while, but...
Let’s say we crash out. No deal. At least a month of disruption.
What do you all think happens next?

Month 1: Some types of food and medicine are in short supply in both the UK and ROI kickstarting an inflationary bubble.
Month 1: The corporates who have until now kept out of the debates put their contingency plans into place with a few thousand workers offered redundancy or relocation.
Month 3: the pound stabilises at its new normal, brits holiday at home and the revival of the seaside towns begin.
Month 24: investment in the UK has dried up as companies choose to grow their businesses inside the EU. Those workers who did not relocate are still out of work, joined by a lot of their colleagues. Unemployment hits record highs, strikes are on par with the early 70’s and social unrest causes large scale riots between extremists from all political leanings and liberals.
Year 4: referendum to rejoin loses narrowly in vote marred by violence and the burning down of dozens of polling stations.
Year 10: Farming becomes more efficient and we lead the world in sustainable food production.
Year 40: the economy is rebalanced and we have a vibrant workforce with similar levels of GDP to where they would have been had we not left. GDP continues to grow faster than the EU average from this point. Until a meteorite hits the planet or AI tries to wipe us out.

Preferred the Jones piece https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/jan/16/labour-pursue-better-brexit-deal-second-referendum-norway-plus
Personally I think a second referendum would see a more decisive vote in favour of Leave.
Some interesting content in the Bickerton piece but the headline, and the "elitist" arguement I find hugely problematic. I find it similar to the idea that if we listen to the financial advisors and MPs arguments that means we're valuing some people's opinions/votes more than the common man and what about the little guy etc. Which is usually put forward in the most manipulative way.

If that's the way it goes after all we've been through in the last three years.. so be it.
A referendum with realistic, informed choices instead of unicorns has a lot more going for it.
ruined it!
