  • What odds are the bookies giving on Brexit not happening now? I don't gamble, and they all seem to want you to open an account to view their odds.

    Leave by 29/3/2019:

    • No: 1/6
    • Yes: 7/2 or 4/1

(Although that's not quite what you asked...)

  • Very specifically for Brexit to be cancelled (rather than just not happening by March 30), here:

  • Paddy Power have no fewer than 30 different brexit specials at the moment.

"UK to revoke Article 50 before 30/03/19 and end Brexit? (extending A50 doesn't count)"

    No - 1/8
    Yes - 4/1

They also really don't think tonight's vote will be anything special...

Government to win VoNC - 1/33
    To lose - 10/1

  • This all feels a bit like how your missus swore a year ago that she was going to dump you and move into my place. But while time is moving fast she hasn't even decided on which of your Park tools she is going to nick before she leaves you for good.

  • I just thought I might ask in this thread whether somebody could give me a quick and simple rundown on the whole issue as I realized I'm a bit lost -
this sums it up quite nicely though, ta.

  • Ah. No worries.

Why not do what I do and have FB but just never look at it. I don't think intervention would end well.

  • It's what I try to do, but you know how it is. "ooh i wonder what bollocks...JESUS TITTYFUCKINGCHRIST!"

  • I found deleting the app on my phone and devices and signing out of the web app made abandoning it much easier. Remove any saved passwords for it too to provide a further barrier to entry.

  • A good practical example is food. We grow 61% of the food we eat, but if you look specifically at fruit and veg, there's a huge deficit in fruit and vegetable production. In 2015, imports of fruits to the UK were valued at £3.1 billion; imports of fresh vegetables (excluding potatoes because they're not vegetables they're a carb) at £2.1 billion.

55% of our tomatoes come from the EU - a lot from the Netherlands, which despite being tiny is the second largest exporter of food behind only the U.S. (because they've embraced modern high tech farming methods).

How do we come about those figures? I hope its not from Supermarkets saying "we sold x amount of ORIGIN - UK labeled stock"
Because you'd never suspect the UK producers to paper over an unforseen supply shortage due to weather with some euro stock to fill in the gaps...

  • Mate, just nuke your account.

    This. 100% this.

TL:DR there won't be instant border and goods checks in NI in case of a Rock Hard Brexit...but it is doubtful the EU will leave a hole like that for more than a few months.

No comment on the shared electricity market, NI buys a lot from ROI. I simply don't know.

  • I've just logged out the phone....

  • I think David Davis just intimated that Remainers might start to get cross (or resort to violence?) if we don't leave by the April deadline:

I think we will see quite visible anger from the public at large, and not just those who might be counted as leavers.

I have met quite a lot of erstwhile remainers who have said to me ‘I have changed my mind and next time I will vote leave’

Appreciate I live in a bubble in That London, but I've personally not met a single Remainer who's changed their mind since the referendum.

  • gammonocalypse?

    go. fucking. wild.

  • Out here in the sticks I have met a couple of people who have moved from remain to leave.

Reasons given were “i am bored of the whole fucking thing and just want to get on with it” and “given the EU not being helpful in the WA negotiations I think we would be better off without them”.

  • “given the EU not being helpful in the WA negotiations I think we would be better off without them”

That's the most fucking stupid sentiment. They're essentially saying, "the club is very consistent in representing the interests of its members over the interests of people outside the club; therefore we should leave the club."

  • No they're not from supermarkets, they're from the ADHB (Agricultural and Horticultural Development Board) which is a levy-funded NDPB (quango), not a rare form of attention deficit disorder. Although I know it sounds like it.

Fun fact: my sister works there!

  • To be honest given the margins arable farmers exist on I highly doubt it would make economic sense to import EU produce and pass it off as UK grown.

  • But what about his pension?

Or where is he going to get laid once eu is over.

  • Ah intelligent people who can see through press bias.

  • Is it worth talking about farming in the UK and the EU and EU and illegal migrants? Or can we take it as read.
