I'd normally drop down earlier from the ridge to park farm, then along the valley, over white down lane and through the Abinger roughs before linking up with your route.

Sorry - you probably don't want loads of tips but I'll do it anyway -

I'd get off a stop earlier and head up the bridleway from Westhumble to Ranmore. It's quite a crank to the top, but lots nicer than the road. Can also grab a flapjack from the lovely pilgrim cycles at the station (opens at 10am).
