  • Anyone got any idea how compatible across derailleurs jockey wheels are?

The seals completely disintegrated on the top one on my Rival 1 derailleur yesterday & I lost a few bearings on the way home. In the meantime, I've stuck in one from a bent 105 derailleur I had lying around (knew I kept it for something!). Haven't ridden it yet, but it seemed to shift fine on the work stand.

Thing is, they're narrow wide jockey wheels since it's 1x. Though I'm not sure how much influence that really has? I'd rather not spend £34 on new ones since it's basically only twice that price for an entirely new derailleur if I can help it.

  • They're 'somewhat' compatible. Different years of Shimano RDs have different size wheels and you need to make sure you get the top and bottom wheels right and the rotation direction right.
£34 for jockeys seems ridic (and I bought CeramicSpeed for the TT bike). I think I paid less than a tenner for Shimano jockey wheels. No idea about NW though. Don't use that shit.

  • I know a late reply but my other half has the same rear derailleur and it’s gone through two jockey wheels in the same way although the wheels themselves have been fine, the bearings have gone everywhere.
I pushed the bearings out of the plastic wheels and transplanted them with some from an older dead sram Rival ten speed set. Worked perfectly
Just need a hammer and something to bash them out with
