  • Haha! He's gonna be "Sons of Arthritis" with that metalwork in his leg #TooSoon

  • Nice gilets.

  • Which train are we looking at heading out on? Starting to look at travel logistics.

  • you mean we arent all cycling there?

  • as i said, i'm happy to lead this out with some assistance.

i'm planning to recce the route as i haven't ridden last years.

    this weekend, i'll ride this:
    https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29129102

most of the route but shortened down to 55 mile.
it'll most likely be saturday, the 5th. it's looking sunny, dry and cold......

anyone who wants is more than welcome to come along.
i'll be on the 07:08 from clapham junction to windsor / eton central.

    --

trains for the 19th i'll confirm soon enough. most likely the 08:02 from clapham junction.

plan will be to depart from staines around 0900 on the 19th

  • I know lots of the roads, it is a lovely route.

A little bit of possible fast traffic as you leave Windsor up towards Taplow, but once there you will have a lovely ride. Forecast is cold this weekend so watch any parts of the road where mud/water might have been left to freeze. Other than that you will be fine as it hasn't rained for many days.

As you come back into Windsor from Fifield the road will suddenly get busier again.

  • awesome. thanks @Arvy.

  • You're set on the early start tomorrow? ;)

  • yep. all set.

appreciate it's well early to get on but sun will be out and i have family commitments in the afternoon.

    best of both worlds!

    you keen?

  • My goodness, that used to be our Fireflies training ride in summer.. some very gorgeous roads, you doing that fixed.. wow

Winter stomach bug keeping me off the bike this weekend..

  • I'm keen, would like to join. I'll ride out and meet you at the station, round 08:10? I had quite a bit of a fall on Monday, but I think I'm recovered enough. The ride out will let me know.

  • @Ruserius

0810 - windsor central is grand.
aiming for a shade under 4 hours.

    see you at the station.

  • @Ruserius

just realised the train goes into windsor riverside....
    arrives at 07:51.

meet on the corner of datchet road and thames street, bel and the dragon pub, for 0800??

  • No problems.
    Looking forward to it!

  • I really enjoy following this hdij foreplay by @Ruserius and @skive

  • just finished 55 miles.
    good route.

unsure i can put my knee through much more tho :(

  • gutted to do this but i need to remove my offer of helping to lead the ride.

rode 55 of the route on saturday plus another 7 getting to the station and back with @Ruserius and my knee was blown out by the end.

pretty sure 70 miles would be a push at the moment and getting on for 100 total is gonna do it no good.

always had this penciled as something to aim for i'm just not ready.

i'll continue to push on for full fitness and recovery.

i know it's the 'hard day' but i can't risk my body for it!

if anything changes in the next 2 weeks i'll come ride.

really hope this goes ahead. it's a great ride and a great route.

  • Happy to do the necessary to make sure the ride happens this year.

In terms of the route, YAML has posted 2 options - the 2017 route and 2018 route that is slightly lumpier. Is everyone happy we go with the 2018 version?

Also who will have a Garmin / Wahoo or similar that can download the route etc?

  • Ive downloaded the 2018 route onto my Garmin already (eager much)

Also, I plan on driving to the start as its a good 25 miles from my house so if anyone wants to stash clean clothes (weather atm looks wet) or whatever you dont want to carry on the ride in there feel free.

  • Good stuff - ideally someone else would also have the same so we have a backup.

I'll be riding out from Molesey (near Hampton Court) to the start if anyone else is that way.

  • 2018 route suits me because I'm local, especially if we start in Staines! @Camel_toe if you want to park outside mine I'm about a km away from Staines Bridge and there's plenty of parking in my road. Else, any of the roads on the station side of Staines Station are free all day - Sidney Road, Rosefield Road, Greenlands Road and Leacroft in the screeny.

As per last year, I'm riding on a 3x repaired knee and I don't know if I'm comfortable yet for the whole distance. I'll go out with good intentions but I may have to peel off around the 50-55 mile point and I won't be able to do time on the front. Just thought I'd mention that in case anyone else thinks they might need a Slightly Easier Day In January.
