Is there a thread for pictures of abandoned/vultured/abused bikes (like the "how not to lock your bike" thread)? I like them in an urban-decay sort of way.
Found this bent up BTwin aesthetically pleasing due to the pre-bent top tube and bars

is that outside Oasis?

Caley picture house surely.

@LeePaton Split the difference, it's near McDonald's on Prince's St (in Edinburgh in case you're referring to some other Oasis/Caley Picture House)
Edit: oh wait, there's 2 Oases on/in vicinity of Prince's St?

Nailed it. Some of them deserve to be rescued, like that Shopper and the classic looking thing by the bins with the Bullmoose

What’s the legal situation with abandoned stripped frames? There’s one d-locked to a lamppost a few doors down. It started out as a full bike a few months ago, but now down to frame, bars and brakes. We’ve reported to council more than once so looks like they won’t do anything.
Looks like an old low end GT maybe, canti brakes on the front and calliper on the back. Rust patches on frame, nothing worth keeping. Husband is sick of it hanging around and wants to hacksaw the frame and bin it.

I’ve left notes before - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. NYC will typically put a bright yellow notice on the bike for a couple weeks, then it gets cut and scrapped.
Sounds like the state of what’s left is enough to remove it without much trouble.

I was looking back through the gbp thread and james (who I had some trouble dealing with purchasing a frame) had posted a picture of this bike about a year ago. Might be worth contacting someone on the property - it’s definitely abandoned.

I have seen that bike with @Mickie_Cricket very closely, its a great track build with tubs and everything.

What was the conclusion for flats with abandoned bikes? Leave a note, wait a month, then contact council for removal?
-
• #465
I thought about leaving a note, I will do that today or tomorrow but given the state of the bike I doubt I'll get an answer. If council comes to remove it whats going to happen to it?

They don't donate it to Re-Cycle or something?

I'm half joking, I've no idea although crush is probably on their list of options. Depends which council I guess.

To get an abandoned bike removed from a cycle stand, use the Ealing Council 24/7 app and choose the 'Abandoned bicycle' option. It may still be possible to report it the old way by calling the council on 020 8825 6000 and asking to speak to Envirocrime.
Note that the council no longer puts notices on bicycles warning that they will be removed, so it is not advisable to leave a bicycle in the same place for a long time. A bicycle is classed as abandoned if it meets one or more of the following criteria:
It is secured in a dangerous position (i.e. blocking the public highway)
It is secured to a council cycle rack and in an unroadworthy condition
It is secured in an inappropriate place (i.e. illegally parked or chained to street furniture) and in an unroadworthy condition.A bicycle that is defined as not roadworthy will have sustained two or more of the following:
Missing wheel
Buckled front or rear wheels
Bent forks
Seized or damaged brakes
Rusted chain or gears
Missing chain -

The absence of brakes alone makes it unroadworthy, if you add the rusted chain and gear it fits the bill... But I'd rather leave it there than send it to the crusher honestly.

I live next to this. It’s been there yonks.
Due to the strong locking technique I’m assuming it was never intended to be abandoned.
It is a shame indeed

Makes you wonder what happened to the owner.
Locking is strong but nothing a few minutes with an angle grinder wouldn't solve, should anyone be inclined. If it's been there for years, then I'd be tempted to rescue it and make some kind of difficult to remove notice of where it went and how to get in touch.

I wouldn’t say years, but am pretty confident its been over a year.

https://lovecleanstreets.com/reports/homeIf in H&F council there is a drop down 'abandoned bike'. I have a feeling my reports are responsible for this drop down...
Contacted the council in the end, asking where they'd go. They've only said thanks, removed the frame then disappeared :-(
