Judging by written reactions it was pretty nasty.
And a real quick turn around from the Police. -

Thanks. It’s so frequent I think I’m better off telling ThamesWater directly.

I roadsafed a driver entering an ASL, just to see whether it's worth it.
The responder said even though it shows the violation they would not pursue it as the chance of prosecution was so low.Is this because you can't see that the light is red in the video, or do you think the response just code for "we can't be bothered"?

You could see everything clearly and they even said that the violation was visible.
It's possible that the vehicle was a hire/private, which makes it more work to find out who's driving and, as far as I'm aware, no ones obliged to tell them.
Essentially though it read that it's not worth their time. -

I'm with the plod here I'm afraid. Infringing on an ASL might be annoying, but if the effect was not openly dangerous its just one of a gazzilion minor traffic offences that take place everyday.
The police should rightly be focusing on following up actively dangerous driving, such as the instance posted by @skinny a couple of weeks back. Based on the tales in this thread, I've found it encouraging that the police seem to be taking increasingly positive action based on camera footage from riders, but this likely wont be helped if every minor issue is uploaded ad infintum.

BUT, if they issued fixed penalty notices for minor infringements and minimised court proceedings etc, it would only take one or two a day to pay someone’s full time wages to go through a load of reports.
(Presumably this isn’t possible though) -

Don't disagree at all.
I uploaded the video really as a test to see if they would do anything. Primarily as I've done most of the work for them (naive presumption possibly). As it turns out it's still not worth it. -

I imagine it's down to how many do appeal, and the volume of work required when people don't just fess up / attend the required course / claim someone else was driving etc etc. I bet it's more work than you think, and I doubt the plod can easily ask for more funding for officers to work on issuing fines for minor motoring offences - the tabloids would paint it as another "attack on the motorist".
In a perfect world, all this would be better enforced, but I don't think we can expect to see much change in this type of minor incident until driving goes automated.

To follow up on this; I just received the below from the lovely Met.
Dear Mr Tenners
Happy New Year to you.
The Registered Keeper of the offending vehicle failed to supply us with details of who was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident, therefore, the Registered Keeper was summonsed to court for the offence of failing to supply driver details. The registered keeper was fined and licence endorsed with penalty points and the case now closed.
Yours sincerely

Does this mean the driver was never prosecuted for the original offence of driving whilst using a mobile phone?
He was just charged with failing to supply details?
-
• #8687
Yes
-
• #8688
And is the penalty for not saying who was driving more or less lenient than driving with a phone..? If less, then I suppose it's a loophole of sorts.
-
• #8689
Normally more. Going rate for a section 172 offence is a £200 fine and 6 penalty points.
-
• #8690
The driver might not have been charged at all. The driver might be 1 point away from a ban while the registered keeper had a clean licence and is prepared to take the points/fine for whatever reason.
-
• #8691
Or the registered keeper is a patsy.
Criminals know how the system works.

Van driver collids with dlock!
-
• #8697
Sounds like instance justice to me. Case closed.
-
• #8698
As one of the comments states; ' If the van driver had been wearing a helmet he would have been OK'.
-
• #8699
That’s it, sun was in his eyes, no hiviz, what does the van driver expect.
-
• #8700
I doubt the driver got out of the van in order to offer advice on riding, or a possible apology to the cyclist.
Yeah they asked me to remove it while the case it open.
