  • Get the Garmin - the watches are really good.

  • I'm guessing from the lack of answers that I should just buy a 130 again?

  • Are the touch screen Edge units to be avoided? Came across (I believe) a nicely priced 510...

I basically want a fairly simple Garmin for the bike that works with Bluetooth for activity transfer.

  • How do you bluetooth/wifi connected lot xfer files to your PCs? Does it require Garmin Connect or is it possible to use WKO or Windows Explorer to view the file storage of the unit?

  • I have a Wahoo Bolt that i used for a week then dropped a few times on tiles and cracked the LCD screen.

Is this something that can be fixed by Wahoo? Thinking i could get rid of it cheap for someone to fix if its not a crazy price from Wahoo to repair.

I got the larger Element and haven't been so clumsy thankfully!

  • My Wahoo Bolt screen froze then threw a hissy fit, Wiggle say only 1 year warranty.
That cant be right can it?

  • Not if you bought it in the EU. Should have two.

  • Thats what I thought, bastids. They are usually good on warranty returns.

  • Having swapped over to a slightly smaller Fenix 5, my Fenix 3 is now up on the classifieds if anybody is after one.

  • Should I replace my Garmin 520 with an elemnt bolt? Garmin battery life is pretty poor even without backlight and I occasionally get spurious power (and hr) readings, which is annoying during a training ride as the Garmin doesn't ignore them and so you end up going from 100Tss to 5000tss all of a sudden...

Anyone know if wahoo filters out obviously false power readings (ie when rpm is 0 or power over 3000w etc)?

    Yes.

Anyone know if wahoo filters out obviously false power readings (ie when rpm is 0 or power over 3000w etc)?

But no, it doesn't. At all.

  • Urgh, will have to continue planning routes avoiding high voltage lines...

  • I got a garmin forerunner watch for xmas with cool features like v02 max estimation and recovery time, but i usually use an edge 810 to record rides/navigate. Am I basically going to be recording with 2 devices from now if I want all of this functionality?

  • Not if you got an Edge 1030.

  • Unlikely! Had a tinker this morning. Seems like recording on both devices is the solution. Isn't too much faff so I'm happy enough

  • I'd just record everything on the forerunner and only take the 810 out if you need turn by turn or nonsense like live segments.

  • Elevation is the other thing I like from the 810, other than readability. It's definitely not getting used on commutes ever again.

  • What's the Garmin of choice for those of you that do TCR etc? 510 doesn't have the touch screen issues the 810 seems to get (based on internet reviews) but the 1030 is the all singing / dancing version but is it all needed for pre-mapped route?

Foolishly signed up for this Transpyrenees lark and will need something for both the training and the event itself.

  • Does it have to be a Garmin? And is it a fixed route or can you pick your own?

I've just switched to a Wahoo Elemnt (bigger one) and I really like it for following a route, recording, battery life etc (Did a 200km ride over Christmas with HR, power meter and navigation and it still had 25% battery left after 9hrs elapsed time).

That said, it's not very good if you go off route or need to re-route as you can't scroll around the map. So for something like TCR where you may have made a mistake in and have to adapt your route on the fly, it's prob not so good.

  • Nope, doesn't have to be a Garmin at all. I'll have a look at Wahoo - like the idea of a longer battery as i will need to be doing 10-hour rides by March. If i can do that on a single charge that would be ideal as I wont have my dynamo sorted by then I suspect.

  • I got a Wahoo Bolt just before Christmas, and have done 600km on it so far - I am so much happier than I was with the Garmin 520 plus. Set-up via phone is a dream, and I had plenty of charge remaining after a 12 hour ride with backlight on the whole time. The buttons on the device are glove-friendly, and the LEDs for turn indication as well as speed against ride average are also a neat feature.

  • I've used the 1000 for all three of mine.
The 1030 should be better if it can actually keep the SD card slot dry.
Yet to use my 1030 in anger (and with Garmin, it's usually really in anger)

  • Fixed route so Wahoo would work well.

Missus used hers for a 200k audax the other week and it seemed to work well enough and had maybe 50% left after 11hrs. I was doing the navigating on the 1030 which also worked and had maybe 35% left.
