The Rapha Festive 500

  • After an unintentional ‘training’ ride yesterday (100.1km // 776hm), complete with sprint and climbing intervals, legs were less-than-fresh today.

My mate suggested we get on the gravel bikes and hit a gravel climb in the mountains just outside Tokyo, as a change of pace. Unfortunately, this also involved the first leg of the route being into a block headwind. Legs are even more smashed now (139.5km // 1,231hm), but the climb was great .

    137.1km to go.

  • Is there anyone near Leatherhead who has a Garmin 235 / 735 charging clip I could borrow for an hour? Forgot to charge it last night....

Payment in pasta salad / choc chip muffin

  • That second shot!

  • I’m very lucky - that’s the view from my balcony!

  • ehh, the mavic death squeal!

  • Finished! Nice ride to Cambridge and back with @giofox.

Totally forgot that I have a summer bike so went all bling on my LOOK instead of the Langster.

    500km and 5200m climbing.

  • Solo round trip

  • Good work! Are you going to keep going?

  • I’m going to a wedding in Oxford tomorrow so Sat/Sun are not an option. Planning another 100km on NYE as LOOK are giving a bike to someone who rides over 600km so I thought I might as well!

  • Allegaert made it a Festive 1000 https://www.strava.com/athletes/28383545

  • I had this exact problem with my Mavic's the first day of the F500

  • Mine has seemed ok for the past 90 miles. Do I trust it with a solo century tomorrow?

  • If it’s just started, you should be ok. You might need to pedal down hills etc rather than freewheeling.

  • Stuck on 192/500 after 3 days of rest, tomorrow I’m planing a solo ride from London. To independent peddler (Canterbury) and back, that should be a nice dent to the festive 500 to achieve the target before time runs out. It’s been a while since I rode more than 100 miles, just have to remember to keep on eating and hydrate as much as I can.

  • Rode to Gullane and back today mostly by accident. Was set on going to a cafe that sells Hungarian meats but ended up doing way more as it was strangely warm.

    115km for the bank.

  • Precisely this; it was like riding fixed again down hills. Fun and terrifying in equal measures.

  • I've clocked 0km so far, and on course to maintain that rate. oops.

    Loving the photos ^^^

  • 120k of gravel and 1800m elevation done, with proper bush bashing, single track, fear of snakes and tough going climbs. Weather was cooler than the last week but it still got up to 33C in the end. Didn't manage to take any pics, apart from when I was glad to see the city after we did the last climb.

    482k done, 18k to go.

  • 369km deep. Wiggly country lanes and mild weather made 75km fly by today. Hoping to hit 500 on Monday.

  • 404Km done, more exploring tomorrow.

  • 355 here. Tomorrow last 150km ride in the Flemish Ardennes.

  • Nice, where is that?

  • 447km done and I’m done for the year.

Might try sneak in the 53km on city bikes in Budapest or will just drink and eat instead.

  • Ran my first sub 19 parkrun this morning, ran home and rode to my mum's to collect a kid - 99 miles exactly.

41km left which I'll try and do tomorrow before I have to pretend to be a responsible parent

  • Just 58km to do tomorrow in the South Downs. the weather has been so mild and dry this year, I was on a summer bike today. I’m also only 19 miles off 12000 for the year, which is alright.
