yes but best method is to measure the rim when you get it :)

Gotcha, thanks for the help! :)

Looking forward to seeing them built!

You know what, me too :D
Might still take a while though, but then, I'm not really in a hurry, it's more of a spring/summer wheelset...

If you’re in London and want to keep things in the forum, @broken_777 aka arkanewheelworks cuts spokes, give him a shout. Dunno whether he has the spokes you want, presumably he could obtain them. Or will successfully persuade you to use pillar aero instead, he’s a fan of those.

Just remembered: using HM washers + 3.5mm nipple bed may result in a somewhat 'short' amount visible nipple on the finished wheel, which depending on your taste, might look a little odd. May be worth considering 16mm nipples if it's a bother... Will post some photos soon for consideration.

@broken_777 has a spoke cutting and rolling machine
so assuming he has the blanks of the spokes you want he can make whatever you want
bollocks, @Skülly stole my thunder

Actually on that topic though, I assume there is some kind of limit on that with bladed spokes, no? At least the blanks need to be somewhat close to the desired length to begin with, otherwise the 'aero' section will either be too long, or at some point comically short...

all black cx ray I have seen have 10-12mm extra above the thread before the blade starts.
-
• #8137
Sure, but the lengths offered usually vary more than 12mm, so I assume there are a number of different blanks in steps of 10mm or something and then the people cutting them down can finish them to the exact length required?
Not that this is directly relevant - I'm just curious :)

Just bought a Giant Propel frame set so want/need some Aero wheels. I already have some Dura Ace 9000 hubs (20 and 24 hole respectively) so looking for recommendation for 50 to 60mm carbon rims?

You'll be wanting the Orient Express thread, where people will tell you to get Light Bicycle, unless you're very short of cash in which case take your chances with Aliexpress. I like the look of their RR56C02, and apparently it has reasonable aeros.

What is the smallest tire you would run on a 23mm inner width rim?
something that goes out to 29-30mm or smaller ? -
• #8142
30mm tyres
-
• #8143
There is no 20h front da hub.

I'd be prepared to try a nominal 23 because it would probably come up to 26mm+, what I'm actually using on a 23mm 29er rim on the back of my 464 is a 25C GP4000, which comes up as 30mm.
-
• #8145
Wow, those extra inner mms really make a difference in tire size.
Is the GP4000 generally considered to have conservative width ratings? -

It probably comes out about nominal on a 15C rim, previously I had them 17C rims and they were 26.5mm wide.

I wouldn't ever completely eliminate the possibility, Shimano have frequently made special DA hubs in unlisted drillings, but @busdennis should certainly do a recount before ordering rims in case he has the common or garden 18H version 🙂

I have a pair of 12h 7700 hubs and sold a couple if pairs of 16h 7700 da hubs. Yes they have done some odd ball drillings.

Speaking of odd drillings, I wonder if anyone knows how to get hold of a 12-hole rim? I have a 12h Royce hub and a 24h rim, which presumably would work fine, but I'm curious as to whether 12h rims even exist. I found a Corima carbon one but it costs way too much for me; Campagnolo did a 12h Shamal in the 90's but I've never seen unbuilt rims available. Any others?
Oh alright, I thought 1mm would about cover it. To be clear, this is 2mm per side, so +4mm when calculating the ERD, right? I'm using Light Bicycle rims, they say 510mm ("not including nipple head dimension", which matches what some other people have said), +4mm for the nipples then, +1.4mm for the washers = 515.4mm ERD.
In that case the DT Swiss calculators gives me 227mm ("226mm recommended") and 244mm ("243mm recommended"), when using the Standard brass 14mm nipples.
