Seems like I picked the best year to drive home to NI for Christmas. Would very likely have been due to fly from Gatwick. Currently sat on a comfortable ferry after an enjoyable drive and a night in a great B&B.

Your timing of these things has definitely worked out very well - sounds like Gatwick was (is?) a total nightmare.

I can only imagine. Having to have waited out God knows how many hours in an airport with a 5 month pregnant mrs_com, whose natural disposition at the minute is "uncomfortable", would have been a total nightmare. I really feel for everyone affected.

The couple who have been arrested have this on the man's Facebook. It's more than enough evidence, I think. Lock up his keys and throw him away.
