Looks as if someone's trying to upset the rotten apple cart a bit:

That's going to be interesting for defence companies and service companies like Capita where the 'customer' might be considered to be the government.

Obviously, those will be abolished altogether under Corbynism.

Isn't this a watered down proposal? Didn't labour want to cap executive pay to 20x (or whatever) the lowest paid staff member

Personally, I think it is plausible he said 'people' not 'women'

it's disappointing he didn't own it. it's even more disappointing he didn't call her a stupid fucking cunt.
telling how this non-event makes the front page news but people dying from benefits sanctions and relying on foodbanks to feed their kids is fucking nowhere.
has anyone seen Johnson lately?

After reading this below and watching the video, I'm now pretty sure it was 'people'.
Some people will probably think it ridiculous there is even an argument around what word he used. But in the debate that followed, many women told stories about being called a 'stupid woman' or an 'irritating woman' and it is clear that sadly peoples' gender is still used to denigrate them in parliament. -

I was all set to agree (based on that Twitter thread) until I watched the video! Looks like "woman" to me - but I am not a lipreader

Wish he'd just said what we're all thinking instead... (NSFW obviously)

She is reading out an example of abuse received by a female politician. Ironic that it is now used as an example of how to abuse people. I think it's lame whoever it comes from. And women get the worst of it.

Is this all just about rudeness or a PC thing ?
If he'd said "stupid people" then he would still have been referring to her, so how would that help ?

Niether, it's about abuse of power by men directed at women, a centuries old problem. "people" is not denigrating a particular person on the basis of gender. Wierd that this needs explaining.

It looks like "woman" to me, too. But I've only been lipreading for 35 years instead of 50 and I don't have, like, a degree in lipreading, I'm just your average, normal deaf person.
Interestingly enough, this article was just posted on a deaf website yesterday, before the corbs thing blew up, about the "nebulous" lipreading incident: https://limpingchicken.com/2018/12/18/liam-odell-nebulous-its-time-journalists-stopped-overestimating-lipreadings-accuracy/
"Mouth astrology" is now my favourite name for lipreading

'Stupid' is the abusive bit. 'Woman' is not an insult. Weird that this needs explaining.
To get excited over this is being over-sensitive or genuinely sexist (if you think women need special, less critical treatment).

"Stupid woman" is the insult, not one word or the other.
As a phrase and an insult it has much more depth, history and charge than "stupid man" or "stupid people" would have. Because, you know, centuries of chauvinism.
C.f:
"You disgusting homo" vs "You disgusting hetero"
"Black bastard" Vs "White bastard"
Weird that this needs explaining.

Hahahaha hahahaha. What the actual fuck?
So if I were to claim that calling someone a black bastard is worse than calling someone a white bastard, I would be being racist?
And not in some semantically pernickity sense of the word, but in the actual, meaningful, derogatory way?
Really? Really?

I really want to make a list of these insult pairs:
"Tight fisted Jew" vs "Tight fisted English man"
"Inscrutable China man" vs "Inscrutable Australian"
"Thick Irishman" vs "Thick Englishman and Scotsman"
"Butch lesbian" vs "Butch Cassidy" (lol)
Any more ?

brown terrorist vs white misunderstood outsider?

Pig head fucker vs Down trodden poor fucker?

The use of 'Woman' as an insult is the problem. I'd like to see you tell women who have been denigrated in this way, that they are being over sensitive.
