Is On-One ever gonna release another Pompino?
-
• #153
They will, in 2019.

Phase one of front fender refit:
Nose of the guard is still a little airborne. Now to disassemble and manipulate the tab a little to see how it affects the rise of the guard.
After that I guess I might be trying to roll the whole fender a little tighter without buckling it...? -
• #155
It does. Mine has been fettled with. Mine is at more of a 90 degree angle rather than perhaps the 98* degree angle of yours.
*Total guess

Dude, you should make a new topic for your Pompino.
-
• #157
It had V-brakes on it for over 4 years, using Tektro RL520 levers.
Cantis are fine, especially on a chill city rig like this. What made you go back to moto on the front?
Also, what is that finish called? -

Brake judder in wet weather got a little boring and the carbon fork I had on there at the time wasn't drilled at the crown for an alternative cable-stop location. I decided that whilst I was 'upgrading' the fork to steel, I would try a different Paul brake.
Funny how us bike nerds don't admit that a setup is shit until we make the decision to change it...The finish is called Desert-Aged Brass, my local powder coaters (Arcane Moto in Brooklyn, NY) stock quite a few unusual finishes that are used on older motorcycles and industrial machinery - this was among them and I loved it. Its texture is very similar to the black wrinkle coating you often see on racing engine cam covers.

Fender de-installed, rolled 'n' cajoled, and re-installed. Much happier with the line and clearance.

Spot on.

Planet-X should give you an award for building up one of their bikes like that. 👌🏼

Since I fitted the Jones bars, access to the Wald 1372 basket I had on there was impeded, so I took it off to rethink the setup. Not wanting to ditch it for a flat rack (the retention offered by a basket is quite brilliant), I decided to modify it for better frontal access.
First I mocked it up in Photoshop using an old image:
Then I got the tools out. Made sense to retain the top frame of the basket for both aesthetics and strength.
Needs a little filing and refining, but I'm pleased with it so far:Next up is to shorten the original struts to utilise the low-rider mounts on my fork.

How hard is the cleaning of this finish? I imagine it to be an absolutely horrific...
-
• #164
Dude, make a current project topic on your Pompino, it's better off being appreciated in a single topic than getting lost in the field of tractors.
-
• #165
Like this one?
-
• #166
Right yes, I got this confused with the Pompino topic!
Let me go and find something to shoot my foot with.

Part of the appeal of this finish is that it hides dirt really well. It definitely attracts dirt a little more than polished gloss paint, but nothing too crazy. Mudguards help a lot, obvs. Another appealing aspect is that it won't show scratches or marring from repeated scrubbing - not that I used scouring pads or shitty brushes on my bikes. I learned a while ago that natural-bristle (eg tampico) brushes are the best investment you can make for cleaning bikes. Not only do they lift grease (rather than just push it around a surface like nylon bristles do) but they can be cleaned as easily as human hair. Makes bike cleaning really satisfying.

Edited Wald 1372GB installed.
Just need a slightly longer bolt for my Paul Gino on the NDS and I'll get that bolted on.

Just need a slightly longer bolt
HA! Same issue I'm having. To mount a light on the Gino right?
I've done something similar with a basket but yours looks infinitely more elegant! -
• #170
No, to sandwich the basket strut between the fork blade and the Gino. I found a longer bolt, it's done.
-
• #171
Very nice, good work.
-
• #172
My bad, that's actually what I meant, I just had my one in mind. Slightly different as no Gino
-
• #173
Jones Loops had the perfect grip angle and width but were killing my grocery game despite the basket mod.
Thanks to whatbars.com I found an ideal replacement, the SyCip JJJ bar by Nitto.
Sprung for some Paul levers too, I love their stuff. -
• #174
Nice, ever tempted by a small rack mounted on the brake bosses? Would look even cleaner
-
• #175
No, the mounting point being so high up would make it even less stable. The change from axle- to low-rider-mount was (negatively) significant enough for the loads carried.
Besides, racks aren’t baskets and I abhor the concept of strapping a Wald to a rack.
Thank so for the guidance, definitely going to reinstall it with a little persuasion of metals.
FWIW, the installation instructions from PDW (both video & written) have the tab positioned ahead of the fork crown...
