Cheers, I think it had just wound down as it took about 40 until it stopped

That’s really weird. The watchmaker said the mainspring was okay? You should get at least a day of reserve. Maybe you don’t gesticulate rudely at people often enough during the day to have wound it up.
I find myself shaking my wrist intermittently to give an extra wind to whatever I wear, and these cheaper autos (and manuals) have never stopped overnight.
Maybe as you think, it was just wound down.

I bought this little gold-plated Omega off Ebay months ago and put a new strap on it. It's my wife's Christmas present. Seems to be keeping good time and she'll like the patina.
Three questions.
1) How do I get the back off? Just out of curiosity, really.
2) What chance that it's a fake? The original listing had a couple of internal pictures, showing Omega engravings. Is this a good indicator?
3) Why do these little mechanical Omegas sell relatively cheap? This was little more than £50, which surprised me. I'm either lucky, gullible or ignorant. Hopefully the former.

Ladies watches are way less popular

Yeah, this. I know ETA 2824s in particular do not like being hand wound too frequently.

You are very kind to put it so mildly ;-)
But it's a pretty watch, and the buyer would have spent more on a modern plastic POS from H. Samual's so it's a win/win

Totally true though. The little ladies square dial Omega De Ville I got from auction was £35 ‘working’, and cost me £65 to service. Good luck getting a mens De Ville for anything close to that money.
@Diamond_Supercool unless you desperately need to, don’t take the back off. You risk slipping and scratching/damaging something, even magnetising it. But look along the edge of the back there should be a small lip or gap between caseback and case. You use a case knife to lever the two apart. Don’t use a screwdriver. If you must, use a blade like a swiss army pocket knife. Case knives are special in the sense they have a relatively fine edge, but it is dull and won’t make you bleed when you inevitably slip.

I love this but I was also under the impression this was some kind of super limited release that had basically already sold out?

I'm aiming at it too

Seems in stock in a few places from a quick Google.

I really like it apart from the giant crown and the fact it's about an inch thick. I wish more brands would do thinner chrono's
That's why I'm saving up for the Zenith El Primero. Going to be a long time saving though ☹️

Lush. Whatever you do, make sure you have it with you whenever near a body of saltwater. Even if you dont swim, dip it.

I'm not obsessed. Honest.

Can you fake it with a homemade brine solution? ;)

I’ll see how it goes now it’s had a full wind. Cheers.

Do it. Wearing mine today after not wearing it for a few days. Such a solid watch for the cash.

The automatic mainsprings have a slipping bridle which means they automatically slip when fully wound such that the auto mechanism can continue to wind them up non-stop.
You can usually sense when they are wound as far as they go because the feeling through the winding crown changes. It’s hard to say how many many winds due to differences in gearing. Could be 10,20, 30 turns at a vague guess.
For an auto like this with manual wind, you will want to give it a few winds if it is starting from cold, because the time keeping will not be great when the balance is swinging with a weak amplitude. Give it ten twists of the crown and you should be fine.

I totally would. Actually missed out on a really well priced Khaki in a mercatino dell’usato in Italy last year. Didn’t know at the time how much I’d like one, nor their heritage.
I’ve actually got an admission to make, that I will have an Omega arriving today from Ebay.
It isn’t as nice as this one I bought from @ejay2.0 though. This one looked like it was orange in ejay’s photo but was actually an amazing bronze. I should have it back mid-january, as the local watchmaker (who is actually ex-Omega) is servicing and replacing the mainspring for good measure.

That’s a lovely looking Omega. See if you can get a correct crown for it. It may have been a “dust proof” type, due to that case type.

If anyone has one laying around let me know! Correct crown isn’t on my list of priorities, but would certainly finish the watch nicely. No idea what it may cost me.
Edit: I’ll have to search this list for 10075659

The turtle is back on the bracelet this week and I’m actually quite enjoying it.

I’m wearing it in the day. Take it off at night and in the morn it’s stopped so I guess it needs a wind?
