Once the rest of the economy tanks that will be a massive part of our gdp.

Also with the drop in value of the pound we won’t be able to import food so what little we make/catch will rocket in value.

Basically fishermen have a lot to gain from Brexit.

Their paywall makes more than the UK fishing industry.

Except none of them will be able to afford boats, fuel or anything else related to fishing.

Since they're all sea scoundrels and can't walk on land properly they'll be slower than the rest of us and thus probably the first victims of the cannibalism that sweeps the nation, at least by coastal dwellers.

I think the Scottish Tories made undeliverable promises about the benefits of 'escaping' the Common Fisheries Policy, and found themselves with some Westminster representation from north of the border/ These MPs are now hostages to the Scottish fishing lobby.

I think I am beginning to see the dilemma. Triggering Article 50 is incompatilbe with the Good Friday Agreement. Mrs May's withdrawal agreement is an agreement to continue the discussion about that incompatibility, maybe for ever. A hard Brexit without any agreement could lead to civil war in Ireland. A No Brexit could lead to civil war in the UK. History suggests that the British (English anyway) prefer a civil war in Ireland. Given that choice the rest of the EU 27 probably prefer a civil war in the UK.

Yeah me too. A lot of people would be pretty upset for sure. But I'd be extremely surprised if there was even something close to a revolt, never mind a 'civil war'.

More likely a riot than a civil war, but even that a stretch if you think about the 700,000 people protesting Brexit not long ago.

Without a single arrest.

This idea that we should continue with Brexit because if it's stopped the far right will get violent needs challenging at every opportunity. We live in a parliamentary democracy, the threat of violence cannot be allowed to undermine that.

I've just read that medicines could be flown into the UK in the event of a no deal brexit.

That's a pretty catastrophic statement for any government to have to make, but at least I guess it shows that they've sorted out the no-deal flight arrangements, no-deal drug certifications, no-deal insurance arrangements, no-deal drug testing policies, no-deal drug storage facilities etc...

Or could it just be another one of those blitz spirit headlines they spit out every once in a while.

I can’t really see a trade deal covering 450 million being sacrificed for a trading area covering 1.5 million people.
Once parliament rejects the backstop the EU will drop the demand because they can’t afford to have the second biggest economy locked out of the rest of the EU over a matter covering just a smidge of the population.
We are closer to a deal than people realise.

If any other EU country wants to Leave they would have to be offered the same deal as the UK.
But, the backstop is specific to the UK.
Say France decided to Leave on the same terms without a backstop that wouldn’t be fair.
The backstop is only there to stop us leaving. The EU don’t really care about the GFA, it’s just an excuse. Nobody has plans to build a wall between Nth & Sth Ireland.

The deal may is offering is a bad deal for the uk. As Brexiteer i must we would be better off stay in the Eu than this crap deal. But it there was an election I voted for may with the crap deal than labour with Corbyn as Corbyn would wreck the country. His ideas all got paid for which mean higher borrowing and taxies.

Also, the whole “deal” thing is a shibboleth from Trump and his campaign no?
Ironically, there was that widely shared article from Trump’s ghost writer claiming how the title ‘Art of the deal’ was never even discussed with Trump, it was just slapped on at the end of the project as they figured that the book would sell better if the title suggested you could learn something from it.
It all feels a bit Adam Curtis.

What a load of tosh recycled for the umpteenth time. If or when we regain control of our borders it will be up to us what customs checks we impose at Dover and elsewhere and how long we take to let goods in. If our roads get clogged with goods going the other way, stopping the Irish through traffic with customs checks before it gets to the UK will solve that one
