I have the Sterrato on my Pickenflick and for general use (it's both my road and cyclocross and gravel bike) it's fine, now looking for bars for a studded winter SSCX idea, where anu extra width can help with control on the snow I believe.

Hope if you want loud looking hubs, the RS hubs are v.quiet - pro or con - you decide.
Also have Hunt gravel, nothing good or bad to say on those, do the job.
I'd trust the Hope to last longer - but that's based on nothing but a hunch and years of using Hope hubs.

You could always see what wheelsmith or lightbicycle can build up.

Have 2 sets from the Cycleclinic. Can’t fault them.

Hope 20five, £400, no faults. The rs4 hub is center lock and a little lighter, uses a 2 pawl freehub so is a little quieter, but you can fit the pro4 freehub with 4 pawls.

The pro 4 version has slightly larger flanges and is 6 bolt.

Both hubs come in 6 colours and various axle options.

Couldn’t fault mine, got two pairs in the house, sold countless others.

Found one of these (Merida Silex) on sale a couple of weeks ago. Really tried to resist as I initially found it really pretty ugly (...head tube...), but wanted a winter/cheap gravel bike, and this was significantly less than some of the other options I was looking at (Cannondale Topstone, Canyon Grail AL, Fairlight Secan) plus available right away. On the plus side is also that it is a bit different geometry-wise from my Isen.

I'm still struggling a bit with the way that it looks, but the weight is pretty decent (just north of 10kgs); it actually rides well (especially downhill); has room for at least 45s or 2.1s in 650b (currently running 42s); and was about £640. This is the same frame as the more expensive alu-models, and the same geometry as the carbon models.

Basically, it is like a lighter Sequoia, pretty fugly, but also without the hipster-tax.

Ribble CGR SL, I see a few people here have ordered the Al but tempted by the crabon version. Stacks up as a light road bike that can take guards/panniers, be stripped back for the odd road race but then take massive tyres. Beside looking a bit silly with 25c tyres, what's the catch? Will the geometry feel lacking on the road? Guess I need to wait for some reviews.

Yeah, will try that! I think it is also the slack head tube angle combined with a steeper seat tube angle that makes for a particularly "funny" look. Makes it feel a bit like you are riding 'inside' instead of on a bike.

Might be a challenge trying to make it more of a looker, be interesting to see what a -17 looks like (see old school C'dale MTB's!)

Got an email today from Ribble confirming the frames landing before Christmas which with the Holy Season Break and their 7-10 day building time makes it a mid-jan delivery estimate.
Fingers crossed for no undue delay.

I have a rear wheel off a 2018 Arkose 4 after some kind soul relieved me of the rest of the bike.

I like the look of the 725 steel one. unfortunately the frameset cost is a bit over budget...
I think it's a bit crazy that the full tiagra build is a grand, yet the frameset on its own is £800

yet with the alloy and carbon there's a £300 difference between the frameset and tiagra builds...

Worth buying the 725 as a bike and stripping? on the SL I think you'd be at least £100 better off after all the hassle.

Buy the whole thing, strip it and sell the bits. Profit.
