  • I recon so, are you going to give fusion 360 a go?

  • Whatever I can get inexpensively on a Mac, I am as yet unsure what that might be.

  • If you look closely, there is a website written across the window... all the info about it on here: http://thejoyofcx.co.uk/

  • Will the inevitable has happened, got in the Volvo, pressed the clutch pedal, it sank to the floor.

There seems to be a few indies around London, anyone tried any of them? I'd take it to Tim but this has come at the worst time, I need the car almost constantly from this Friday onwards until after the new year. So will just try one of them.

  • Also I've basically had the flu for about 1.5 months now so I'm not doing it myself.

  • Have you diagnosed the fault?

  • Fusion360 is free for home use and there’s their own online training course to get you going.

If you want your creation printing let me know too

  • Downloading it now.

  • Press out a broken wheel stud

Bugger! I've only used Tim or a Volvo dealer I'm afraid.

  • Well it's master or slave cylinder leaking, either way I'm not rebuilding it, nor do I have the patience to bleed myself, so I'm just going to pay someone to do it.

Now if I was used to the engine bay and I'd been working on it for a while already it'd be a different matter.

So far I've only serviced it myself and done the odd job. When it's dry, warm, sunny, and the days are longer then I'll start taking the engine bay apart.

  • Lack.of vitamin c.

  • Going out of the house with wet hair?

  • With Kilarney rally finishing today i feel compelled to share this video of Craig Breen, in car, in a proper group B 6R4 over Molls Gap.

    Sound on.

  • Master is easy to scout if it's gone that suddenly. And it's easy to change. Slave is not, it's a concentric job which means gearbox etc out.
They aren't a common thing to go. The hose as it snakes around the bulkhead esp on petrol models does get pretty crusty, hopefully just a hose.
Concentric slaves, never buy a cheap one, too much labour to replace when it inevitably shits the bed in 3 months time (learnt this lesson already).
Diesela don't get as hot and have the patented volvo anti corrosion system to stop anything under the bonnet ever ever corroding ;)

  • Thanks for sharing that. Amazing acceleration.

    Morereps

  • Very kind of you! I'm Kingston based.

Am I right in thinking that if someone has the software/scanner thing, all I'd need it a key to programme it to? They appear to be about £60 on ebay.

I think I've found that Green Flag can do it, and that maybe the call out charge would be free as they do my breakdown cover anyway....

The quote I got from car key solutions was like £215. That includes them driving over, supplying a key and programming. Not sure if it also includes them passing on my details so it can be car jacked 48 hours later.

  • Recommendation for a breakdown/emergency kit to throw in the boot and forget about? I already have a 12v compressor and don't need any of the euro travelling stuff as I'm very unlikely to be driving on the continent.

  • In amarok news, i'm looking at one this afternoon that had its cambelt snap, taking the whole top with it. Everything was replaced at a VW garage, but is this a massive red flag or not?

  • If you defer maintenance long enough for a cambelt to snap, what else have you not done on time?

With that said, how old is the Amarok in question? If it's younger than its first mandated cambelt change then it's better news from a maintenance perspective, but I'd want to know why it snapped.

  • The belt snapped at about 70000km, maintenance says to change at 150000km, so def too early.

The car is a 2011 and that year had a bad cover for the cambelt as it didn't cover the whole thing, the bottom was left exposed. The snap happened on a motorway I think, so could've been something hitting it.

As long as it doesn't affect the integrity of an engine, I guess it's good from a maintenance point of view like you say. It's certainly nice to know it's recently changed as it's a £1500 fix (at a VW dealer)

  • Is your heart set on an Amarok? As I am selling my 58 Isuzu Rodeo, 3.0 turbodiesel auto, 98k miles, 12 months MOT, hard cover, £6.5k. (apols for spam)
