Epic fail

Heh. Did that myself some years back up on Hampstead Heath. Richard Ballantine (as in Richard’s bicycle book) had bought along a Trek mtb fitted with Magura hydraulic rim brakes, we’d never seen them before. I took a spin on it, barrelled down a hill and grabbed a handful of back brake for impressive skidz. The front wheel locked instantly and I wiped out big time.

Much embarrassment.

We’ve all done it. Also jumped on a Saffa mate’s Intense freeride bike and went to haul the front up by grabbing the rear brake and rocking back. Locked the front wheel instead and raked my right shin straight down the studded pedal. Massive shin burger. I still have the scars.

Did lol

Went to test my newly built 'cross bike in crystal palace park, in the dark. Climbed well, braked well, shifted well under power. Went down for another loop, hit a kerb and burst both tyres.

(* when studying A-level Physics in the late '70s).

I did my degree work experience at JET in the mid 90s. It was 30 years away then as well.

The more up to date (and equally depressing) version might be that we spend more on in-app purchases in games like Candy Crush or Golf Clash then on nuclear fusion research.
