  • I noticed a report about that on twitter and found it saddening on so many levels. It's good to see he has support from others but really if his life was so invested in lego both as a community and social thing and a private thing spending time building then it's going to really mess him up and put him in a bad mental place.

  • There was a gofundme page set up to help him start rebuilding ( ahem ) his collection. It did quite well.

  • Aha. That fundraising effort is consoling, but what's mainly sad about it is the irreplaceable nature of what he built--assuming he didn't enter the builds into a computer programme. Also, if they didn't take his new computer, that suggests they came specifically for the LEGO, which means they may have known him or found out his address through LEGO circles somehow. Just as with bike parts, it's probably pretty easy to monetise LEGO--you just break it all up and sell through Bricklink. I mean, it's hardly the biggest problem in the world, but perhaps a consequence of how big a business LEGO has become, as reflected in the cost of new sets, the number of copycat companies, etc.

  • We live in truly dramatic times.

  • Seeing this thread pop up reminded me I got bit too into the Lego the other week. A rainy Saturday saw the in-laws big box come out. Eldest daughter said "daddy can you make me a motorbike?"...

3hrs that day, a night thinking of how to improve the steering/steered tube/ headtube set up and then another 2 hours the next morning and this is what I turned out. It was hard handing it over for playtime...

  • Impressive.
    Very Moto Guzzi.

  • After a month in orbit, the shuttle has finally landed after I found some wheels which, rather surprisingly, Lego didn't seem to consider a necessary part of the model.

  • My first foray into adult Lego.

    This is gonna get expensive.

  • Ha, missed that when you posted. I hadn't seen that set before.

  • Anyone been watching the lego 'bake off' program on C4?

  • Upon landing on this thread I came across your map - stunning! Purchased it straight away from OS website today so it is indeed still available!

  • Hah, it is nice I agree, I don't think my brother has actually taken his out of the tube which is a shame, but of course he can always do so at some point in future.

  • Just placed an order for the same.

  • As OS had a very good deal (or an error in shipping calculation in their webshop setup) I also ordered one. Family vacation 2043: Oxus Patera

  • Finally got around to getting a frame made for the Mars map. Collected it this morning. Spent the rest of the day finishing the frame. Grrrrrr! it wasn't cheap - I shan't be using that frame (not quite) maker again. Delighted to say that it is now on the wall. And level.

Just need to plan my journey home, once my spaceship is fixed.

  • 31049 B model aeroplane left a lot of parts unused, enough to add armament and build a heavy duty skidoo

  • Nice one. Sort of a WW2 US Navy bomber with added anti-tank guns.
    I like your thinking.

  • If everything goes to plan mine will be sorted for christmas!! good looking frame you have

  • i've recently discovered lego trains (the christmas one) but am waiting on the newer "power" modules that are bluetooth and can be ran from a phone before delving deep into starting a "proper" collection.............most places or OOS for the City Passenger train that uses it i believe.

also. keen to build a ski lift "scene" using power too when i get things going.

  • tracked Nice set, like your skidoo more than the tracked vehicle in the original. Minifigure scale, too.

Is that a triple-engined spaceship behind it in the picture?

It's some kind of mega-Mars explorer, the b model from the 31066 shuttle kit. My nephew built it while I was playing with the 31049.
