Smiths Everest getting cheaper on eBay... A friend is after a watch and I’ve suggested one of these/this but he’d not heard of smiths before... I didn't realise these were only £330 new

Some are cheaper, some aren’t, this one surprised me the other day. They were £225 new and I still wear mine regularly.

I understand it's a bit difficult to tell from shit pictures but does anyone know if this Omega looks legit? https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1399997627
It's local to me and looks pretty cheap but I have no frame of reference... -

it's not the best example
but it's cheap. I'd want to see a movement shot but if it were me I'd budget for a service and a replacement dial, though I quite like the original one it came with. Take care because that "original dial" has no date window which I'm struggling to make sense of. My guess based on these (shitty) pics would be that the second hand has been replaced (it should be red for the original dial) but the replacement dial is probably Omega manufactured and not redialled (though redials can be hard to spot without a higher resolution photo). It looks like the watch maker has put it together from spare parts to hand to keep repair costs down, but it looks reasonably legit. This is what it would look like with the correct second hand and an original dial with a date window. To get it to this condition a replacement hand and dial, (or retouch the lume and go without a date window), service the movement and add a bracelet.
I think you should be able to get a better example for $450.
The seller is selling a bunch of watches so he knows what this piece is worth. It's no bargain. But unless the seller can give you more info as to why the "original dial" has no date window I'd pass on it unless you're super keen for a project.

As some of you may have read, I’ve lusted for a Speedmaster for a while. When I actually tried one on, I was disappointed - but I’m still not really sure why.
I see pics of them and still lust after one. I have no idea how many pics but it must be in the high hundreds or more.
Tonight, just now, I have come across a pic of a Speedmaster which did not excite me and to some extent, has annoyed me. The pic is below, I’m interested in any comments about it as I can’t work out why it looks so bad.

For me, the strap is wearing the watch. And the watch is wearing the person.
-
• #31564
So it’s a strap issue. I thought that, then thought it must be me being fussy.

Yes

To be fair, there is nothing wrong with the strap. I just think it hasn't been broken in, and is a bit loose.

That milky ring from the crystal is surprisingly obvious even from a distance.
This linen dial King Seiko (4502-7010) finally got delivered today, very pleased.

Thanks all. If you can find my earlier moaning, you may understand my reluctance as it looks so much like a Sekonda I have. I know I’m being odd but it’s a significant amount of money for something which will gather dust.
I am planning another visit to the jewellers to try it on again. They had one at £8000 which I like much more but ‘much more’ would never justify that expense at all.I have, possibly, another option. A local jeweller definitively has an older Speedmaster. I may contact him to try it on. Reduced cost may suit me but it depends on a few things. It’s not an investment but, as I won’t be wearing it much, I need to consider resale. Obviously, I will keep all
Advised.
Ejay might be the best ‘new buy’ option for it but I need to like the watch first! -

Strap doesn’t look like the best quality
-
• #31571
Why not just buy something you really like regardless of model? It sounds a bit like you've decided you want a speedmaster and you're trying really hard to convince yourself you actually like it.
In terms of that picture, the strap looks really loose and it's half hanging off the wrist. It looks lop-sided.

Glad it isn't just me! I did recently try a vintage 39mm version, with plexi, and it was much better on than the new speedmasters... Not sure why.
They do seem to wear better with a bit of battle scarring to them.

Seatbelt natos never look good.
Not sure why the watch looks so big in that picture. When I tried @inchpincher 's on it seemed very modestly sized and appreciably slim (says the guy who wears diver's watches 99% of the time).
Hi-beat King Seiko is lusssshhhhh by the way.

Thanks for the detailed reply. It was a bit of a knee jerk reaction during my usual browsing on Kijiji. Afterwards I looked on Chrono24 and pretty much came to the same conclusion.
EDIT: Also I reread the description and it seems to suggest that the dial in the watch is the original and that the other dial (sans window) is just a spare dial that he's throwing into the deal. Unless it became very cheap I think I'll steer clear. I'd bascally be buying it to satiate the need for the Omega I actually want but can't afford/bring myself to spend the money on.

Lovely. Big fan of the 60s and 70s king Seiko's.
The high beats are especially lovely and the 36000 bph sounds awesome.
Does it still have the gold medallion?
Sorry to harsh your vibe - the JLC has now been sat in a draw for 5 months and we've agreed to sell it and she'll buy something she wants more
