I've got some 365 bib shorts which are pretty OK, seem good quality except the elastic around the leg bottom could be a bit more snug, so they ride up a little. Not major but not perfect. (tbf, maybe bigger thighs would do the trick?) Only other PX clothing I've had are the neoprene overshoes, which I thought were very good, and wore them into the ground.
I was on the verge of ordering some 3-for-2 merino wool bits, and may still do, as I'd like some lightweight layers for touring. Any other value-for-money merino brand recommendations?

Can't speak to the bibshorts, but the (Echostorm) bibtights I have of theirs have a ridiculous fit. Quads are impossibly tight, everywhere else fits as sizing would suggest. To the point where I had to go up a size to even squeeze them over my legs, but then it's loose everywhere else.
As for base layers, got some of the Agu windproof ones and they're bloody beautiful. Highly recommended, fit true to size.

And 40% off 40% off with a coupon. £18.93 for a long sleeve and a short sleeve layer. No-brainer. Cheers!

The agu windproof base layers are fantastic for £6

Anyone have any experience with the Planet X Pro Carbon model? £749 for Sram Rival 22 and a full carbon F&F seems filthy good value.: http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/CBPXSLPRIV22/planet-x-pro-carbon-sram-rival-11-road-bike
I don't need it, I can't really afford it, my wife will kill me, but I can't help but be a little tempted.

I had the Pro Carbon for many years and was very happy with it. Paid just under 1k in 2008 for part-Dura Ace equipped, stock PX wheels and kit, etc. which seemed reasonable at the time, so yes £749 for SRAM Rival 22 is excellent value IMO, and I would definitely have it on my short list if I was in the market for a road bike at <1k right now. As it is, I sold it in order to finance a PX London Road since I needed a more functional bike with clearances for wider tyres, rack mounts, etc. The Pro Carbon has old-school race bike clearances, i.e. 25c max, or 23c with skinny mudguards (Raceblades).

I've got a Planet X Pro Carbon, albeit a self-build rather than a Planet X build. It's reasonably light and comfortable, with fairly upright and relaxed geo. It's not the stiffest frame in the world, by a long chalk. If I give it the beans in a sprint I can feel the frame moving, and mine gets quite bad speed flutter at over 50mph, but keep it below 50mph and it behaves itself nicely.

Still riding a 2007 Ultegra build, upgraded the wheels to Easton EA50 in 2008 and think I will forever be the limiting factor in performance on it.
At £750 today that looks a bargain compared to £1k 8yrs ago.

Thanks for the info, all. Not sure I'll ever get it past my better half, but I'm mighty tempted to try.

Anyone riding the RT90/Viner Mitus 0.6?
It's only available in very uninspiring carbon/grey or black/green.

seemed expensive, no mention of tyres clearances.

I have the disc version of the RT-90, got 27mm Pave's on it, wouldn't take much bigger though . I have seen f&f for cheaper on there in past few months. At least 100 quid cheaper than that.

Thanks, that's really handy to know as I can bide my time on this.
It's for road racing so no bigger than 25c needed. It's the only half decent frame I can find for the job that has a BSA BB. Should be a straight component swap from my current bike.

If road racing is what you're aiming for, what about getting those cheap Ribble instead? like the Ribble 7005 Ultralight Racing for less than £300 (1350g frame weight and BSA bottom bracket), or the carbon Evo Pro with BSA as well and external cable routing.

I currently race on a 2008 CAAD 8, by far the oldest bike in the field, not that this is a bad thing. On paper the Viner f+f is 600g+ lighter and I'd assume a little stiffer too (straight seat stays vs not). I'll check out those Ribbles but they win an award for worst product description ever..
"Ribble Evo Pro Red Frameset" and that's it.Another option is to replace my weighty fork, that's an easy 250g saving right there.

For the money i'm very happy with mine, got it with a Force 22 hydraulic group for a little over 1200.
The internal cable runs are a bit shit, and are massively fiddly to re-cable but that is my only complaint really.

Second hand CAAD10?
TBH, Cannondale are already pretty good bike, use the money for a decent race wheelset/tyres combo would be what I recommend.
-
• #644
A good choice and I've looked around, a new CAAD 12 frameset was another option but don't want to be dealing with adapters, BB30a and all that(?). I'm tied into my wheelset (powertap) and the groupset is mostly ultegra which leaves the frame and fork.
The current fork, with some headset bearings on, weighed in at 676g, so upgrading that and keeping the frame is another option but then I've put 15,500 miles into the frameset, maybe time for a change?!

• #645
Another option is the Trek Emonda ALR which is very light, stiff and use BB86.5, a Shimano press fit sizes (very easy and foolproot to swap).

• #646
Thanks, one for the shortlist.
I tend to score points on lumpy circuits with up-hill finishes, so taking off a load of weight seems a good approach.Looked at forks and a columbus Minimal Road would be an instant 300g win, would be a cheap fix to keep me happy anyway.

I've been racing on a cinelli experience this year and really like it, some of the rest of the team have effectivly downgraded to experience framesets for racing aswell. Can be had for £400 from triton but i've seen them as low as £250 on ebay for last years model. BSA BB too
-
• #648
Nice idea, would be a no brainer if I was starting out but don't think it'd offer much more than the CAAD8, same weight too.

Anyone else being extremely lured in by the PX Black Friday sales? Don’t need an R7000 Pro Carbon, but for 700 quid...
-
• #650
Or the Space Chicken with £500 discount!
I've had a fair bit of On One/PX merino because it's cheap and I've managed to shrink most of it, even with careful washing.
Make of that what you will...
