  • Someone on the production line nudged open the parsimony valve.

  • That's criminal

  • mugged off

  • First post here. And I'm ashamed to acknowledge that it'll be somewhat blasphemous. Those of weak disposition, or on a low sugar-pre-lunch slump be warned.

I'm waiting to kick the season off officially next week, but was lulled into temptation by a 'Mince Slice" with a crumble top at Benugos. In my mind it was sufficiently removed from a recognisable mincer to be well within the bounds of a standard 'mid afternoon treat' with maybe a hint of a nod of things to come next week. The problem is... it was lovely.

Perhaps a smidgen on the sweet side, but excellent ratios of mince and pastry with that warm satisfying tingle. Have I sinned or should I take this as a fair warning that perhaps it is time I kicked the season off in earnest, if a little early, to avoid further temptations? Please help.

  • sweet side

Some of us are pioneering a counterbalancing condiment.

  • So who's managed yet to not-share one of those enormo sharing mincers from Aldi? The temptation was strong yesterday, but I held back.

  • The three cherry toms in the middle seem to be bang on the sweet/savoury 2018 trend.

  • I'm just gonna grab a 6-deck tonight, attack the box with a hammer, then pour the resulting dust/sludge into a spag bol.

  • Hmm,
Xmas lasagne, pre-cooked pastry layers separated by mincemeat, proper custard to serve?

  • Dunking mince pies in condensed milk, yay or "wtf is wrong with you"....

Discovered it was a good way of making the nasty ones edible

  • I'd be asking for my money back.
    And a custodial sentence.

  • I tweeted to them but they've not replied.

  • With or without sriracha sauce?

  • Soon.

  • Had a similar experience with Asda jam donuts a few months back. Bought a bag of 6 and bit in into the first one only to discover there was no jam. I checked the others and they all had jam holes in them so I assumed it was just the one which hadn't been filled. Disappointed, I tried another only to discover there was again no jam. I figured I was really unlucky and it was impossible for all of them to be like that so I ate another, again no jam. By this point I had eaten half the pack so felt like I couldn't take them back. I was also ravenous for the sweet nectar i had been thrice denied so I had 2 more, again no jam. I was then too full and disgusted at myself to try the last one which I ended up in throwing in the bin with rage.

I do really like the Asda deep-fill mince pies!

  • Mince omelette is where it’s at.

  • ^highly disturbing on a number of levels.

  • There is something very unsettling about the non-uniformity of the serving dish.

  • Highlight of my scene so far: grabbed a Pret mincer and a filter coffee yesterday as a mid-afternoon executive pick-me-up. Crumbly, Rich and deep; recommended.

  • Aren't the Pret ones like £1.50 for one?!

  • I did say executive

  • I can't help but think that once we've Brexited, all supermarket purchases will be like that. But that's an item probably for another thread.
