Why would I want that?

Because it's by far the easiest way to tension, and keep in tension, a chain on a singlespeed without horizontal dropouts.

Why can't I have what I want?

Chain tensioners can't be that great in CX, getting stuffed full of grass & mud until they seize up.

Also, they're massively fugly

@Chalfie bombtrack make some bikes with slider dropouts too. Arise it's called I think.

Why would I want that?

It work perfectly well with a chain tensioner, thus give you a much broader choice of CX/gravel frameset on the cheap, and especially one with a flat mount brakes.

You haven't seen @Chalfie bike.

I ran one for a while, never had any problems with it getting blocked by grass or mud. I'd recommend you run it pushing in to tension, that eliminates any slipping under load.

They are fugly, but they are a lot less hassle than an EBB.

I guess what I'm after is disc brakes, gear hanging option, carbon fork, forward facing horizontal dropouts, horizontal top tube, mudguards and rack.

All this is obtainable if you stop hating on the chain tensioner.

Does anyone have a stock Arkose rear wheel they'd be willing to part with? I'm never going to need my SSCX Arkose in SS mode and I've fucked up my road bike which also happens to be my only geared bike, and haven't got the cash to fix it.

EDIT: by 'part with', I mean 'sell', obvs!

Does your Arkose have a freehub? if so, you can put a cassette (removing a handful of sprockets to fit) and run it as a 5 or 6 speed from a 10 speed block.
