Cheers, I'd searched for powertap G3 and not g3c!

"As this item is brand new, you should be entitled to 2 years warranty.
However, you will need to take up any warranty inquiries with PowerTap direct"From Paligap

I've been considering getting a powertap hub/wheelset and have noticed that servicing seems to get mentioned quite a bit more than on other powermeters... Is this something that needs to be considered when purchasing one or are they generally good for few years?

IME they're good for pretty much ever. The NDS bearing has a habit of dying relatively frequently, as it's rather small due to having the electronics surrounding it and it's not very well sealed. However, it's very easy to replace yourself and the scare stories about the hub needing to be recalibrated afterwards aren't to be believed, I've found. I've found Power2Max and PowerTap meters to be extremely reliable. Everything else has been a bit hit and miss, except for Stages, which was absolute shite from day one.

Ive been using PT's without issue for 5 years.
Saying that, one of mine is currently only getting 60+ hours out of a battery so could be going back soon.

That's good feedback, thanks both.
Are the any rumours about the price of the forthcoming G4 hub? Will it be higher or lower? Worth waiting for?

For those of you who still like training outdoors, there’s the new PowerTap G4 Disc rear hub that adds massive compatibility. It’s available with 142 thru, 148 Boost thru and QR axles to work with any type of disc brake bike – road, mountain, cyclocross or gravel.

They also switched to centerlock rotor so they can use a standard rotor, no longer requiring the proprietary 6-bolt rotor from the G3.

It’s an all-new design that improves things to 1.5% accuracy, and has a new transmitter with magnetic charging port. They’ll have it with an Shimano 11s and XD-R Driver freehub bodies, and eventually MicroSpline for the new XTR. Price is $TBD, available early 2019. The G3 may stay in the line for a while, but will eventually be phased out. This purple color is mainly for athletes to draw attention to it, but it’ll sell in a standard black color.

You'd think with the increase in competition the price might come down a bit but purple anodising probably means it'll be £100+ more expensive.

For showing it off at trade shows only, will be black. Would like to see a price drop based on competition but doubt it.

Powertap C1 chainring powermeter:
Am I going to kill it or myself if I change the chainrings to a non specific chainring?
The replacement chainrings are one piece, and look to have the depth of a single chainring.
Can see that it would be complicated to put 2 chainrings, but any reason why a 1x chainring wouldn’t work? -

Does anyone here have one of these old Powertap battery cover removal tools available to buy or borrow? Have just taken a punt on an old Powertap Pro wheelset and just thought I'd ask here before ordering a new one...

Try with an old inner tube for grip first, might not need it.
-
• #9042
I was trying to think of something grippy I might have around the house to use, thanks for the advice.

I have one but I still need it, can lend (via post or from SW15/SE1) if urgently required but I'd need it back.

I might have one kicking around will check

Thanks for the offers both, I would need it posting unfortunately but happy to cover the postage.
The wheel isn't here yet and I'm not sure if it will be a brick or not or even if I'll need the tool to open it up to swap the batteries.
Don't really want to buy an expensive bit of plastic if the wheel is dead... -

I’ve got my hands on a new bike and it has an SRM Sram Red power meter and SRM PC7 computer on it that I don’t really need. Would anyone here be interested before I make a general sale thread or try selling it elsewhere?
It’s 130bcd with GXP spindle and 170mm arms. The 53/39 rings look a bit worn, but I’ll need to clean them up to see properly.
It’s this one here: https://www.evanscycles.com/sram-power-meter-chainset-srm-00131726
£900 seems a good price for something that would’ve cost over £2k new. Any interest here?

Thanks for this tip - it worked a treat. I used some thin rubber sheet and managed to twist it off with no problem. I suspect it's probably a better method than the using the official tool.
Always appreciate saving a bit of cash - cheers! -

You’d think so but a new P2m and Garmin will still cost less and won’t be such a pita to change a battery.
Best bet would be to head over to forums where people want SRMs or chuck it on eBay.

Got my MTB PT wheel back with new erectronics. That's one bike back in action. Yay
-

Hmmm. Not sure that when you add the Sram Red cranks to the P2M NG spider and added speed and cadence sensors to a decent level Garmin that it would come in cheaper, but I get your point. There's obviously a reason that SRM sell for more, but I can't really be bothered enough to research into why.
I've stripped the bike down completely and will add some images here before heading to ebay/facebook/other sources at the end of the week.
If there's any interest I'm happy to listen to offers. I'd be happier to let them go to a good home on this forum than extract maximum value out of them elsewhere.
Failing at eBay, didn't see them with a quick search, all gone?
