Tbh the 50t rolls nicely with an 11-34 cassette down the canal.

34t inner ring is more than sufficient for any climbs

Need some new tyres for the Straggler (currently got crap 32mm commutey things on it). Should I just get Schwalbe g-ones, or is there another do-it-all option?

I've actually got a pair of CX kings that i chuck on if i need to - im after something less knobbly than those.
Unfortunately, the bike doesnt get as much non-road use as it should, so something that's comfy on roads but also won't be totally useless if there's some mud or loose material around.

I’ve got a pair of single speed wheels coming in the mail for my 1x1. I believe the smallest freewheel cog is 14T, but I wonder how big a chainring folks run on such a bike? The current 32T from @beetletype25 already looks tight...

Moving the chainring to the outside will give you a bit more clearance. Think that's how I ran it SS.

Am in same position with a straggler at the moment. Think i'm just going to go with G-One's too.

PS Wiggle have £10 off a £50 spend at the moment which may be of use.

Is it a hub with a freewheel thread?

There’s 2 sizes of thread, the usual mtb one goes down to 16t, the one that takes a 14t is a smaller thread and really only found on bmx hubs.

Fitting an 11T or 13T would be great, no need for a new chainring...

For road use I take it? 32:11 would be a hell of a gear for off-roading.

Just to confirm (as best i can, they came on the bike when I bought it!) they're a SS conversion set so they're using a regular cassette spline, meaning you just mount a 'cassette' cog on it and use the spacers as opposed to a 'screw on' track fitting. Hope that helps!

Aahhh fitted WTB resolutes on my Surly. Worked very well on 100km gravel ride!

Ok - my wife was thinking of selling her cross check frame - 50cm. I’ll have a chat with her and see if that’s still her thinking (she’s a bit shorter than your friend and finds it a little ‘reachy’)

Edit. Actually She’s taller, but still finds it reachy :-)
