To be honest, I thought it would be someone else that started a list... :P

Fan assisted ovens.
Ok they probably heat food better, but it sounds like there's a fucking jumbo jet taxiing in the kitchen afterwards, timed to switch off at the exact moment that you've finished the meal that you tried to enjoy. -
• #10559
Do they take longer/louder to cool down than regular electric ovens?
If so, why? -

TV documentaries over-using the historical present tense: "When the printing press is invented, everything changes". Producers get interview subjects to us it whenever they can to make their stories seem more immediate, but it's so unnatural that people often mess it up and slide into past tense within a single sentence: "When I see smoke coming out of the engines, I started to shout..."

TV/film scenes when the audio from the next scene starts a few seconds before the visuals do. Apparently a 'J-cut'.
I find it utterly distracting to the point of infuriation; tells me I'm watching the product of an editing suite, not a narrative.

I agree, so infuriating

Politics of children's sleepover parties. My beautiful, effervescent 6 year old daughter walking out of her classroom ashen grey after finding out that she wasn't on the list of girls attending tonight's sleepover at her friend - despite the fact that 7 of 11 girls in the class are. Fucking fuck. She's broken, and I can't fix it. Fuck.

I understand where you are coming from.
1.Watch her favourite movie with popcorn.
2.Play Minecraft with her.
3.Have an impromptu 'midnight' snack.
4.Tell her that everyone at the sleepover is not having as much fun or doing the things that you are. -

Not wishing to sound heartless but make a fuss of her tonight and she’ll get over it. Kids are amazingly resilient and they forgive and forget easily and they move on.
I’ve been there more than once with my kid when he was little, and tho it’s shit at the time, it all works out ok, trust me.

Organize a rival sleepover party for the remaining four. Start a sleepover war.

Organize a rival sleepover party for the remaining four. Start a sleepover war.
That's not how you win a war though.
Organize a rival sleepover with the remaining four, and three of the seven.
Divide and conquer.

What you're describing is bad editing, J and L cuts are used constantly when editing and more often than not you wouldn't even notice. You would find it much more distracting if everything had a straight cut, but bad technique is bad technique. It's very common for bad editors to use long audio cross fades on j-cuts to make lazy edits. And don't get me started on cross dissolves!

Had that recently. An older colleague who I've always liked suddenly pops his gasket and starts ranting about bloody feminists and not being allowed to use the n-word about black people anymore. Total wtf moment. Just us two in the room. I just walked out at the time, had to mull it over. Talked to him a few days later, can't say things are ok but I felt better for having done it.
