Taking a bike to explore the Blue Mountains is not totally crazy. Taking it on the train gives you the option to get out to dozens of spots on the cliffs not served by bus or coach, avoiding the worst tourist traps. It is not flat but there are few serious hills while you stay on the main plateau. Lock up before exploring the cliffs and valleys on foot. @Dammit 's tour comes back via Parramatta which is best explored by bike on a Sunday. There are now off-road cycle routes parallel to the river back to the Olympic Park. On the boat all you see here is mangrove swamp. After that take your bike on the ferry back to the main harbour and centre of town.
Bikes go free, maximum fare all day Sunday is $2.70 on an OPAL card.
