  • Looks nice!

(Currently negotiating the weekend away with the gf)

  • My gf & I are both keen for this please - we've camped a fair bit, and cycle toured with luggage, but not properly combined the two into a bikepack/overnighter, so looking forward to it. Food etc - bring a stove and dry food? The bothy looks like it's next to a stream?

  • food - bring a stove, pot, and whatever food you like to eat
bothy is next to a good water source, yes.

please pack as light as possible. you will be on MTBs? the route will be rather challenging if not

  • Surly straggler with Nanos?

  • I think you'll want some knobblier, bigger tires, but...
...look at the picture in the first post in the thread, that's taken up near the bothy.
    ...and this video
    - we'll do much of this trail on day 1.
if you're confident on your bike and have the skills to ride this stuff at a decent pace, you'll be fine.
just don't want to hang around loads on the technical descents etc.

  • This is mudness! I'm putting front suspension on!

  • good move.
the gap ride around the brecon beacons, in the video above, is one of the really iconic UK MTB trails. very much looking forward to it.

  • That looks doable, not at that speed though..

  • understood.
most of us will be on hardtails with 2.4 tires, me on nobby nics for example.
I leave it to you to decide!

  • If you ever fancy staying at the bothy up Cadair Idris, I might have to join you for that one.

  • I was there a few weeks ago! had a lovely scramble up the north face of Tryfan.
would love to do an MTB trip around there, but getting there on public transport is impossible :(

  • Wouldn't want to slow you down guys (if it's any muddier than the video I would be completely useless), I think I will pass this one and join the next one that is more suitable for my gear..

  • Yep, both on hardtails. We have seat packs, bar bag for me and maybe a frame bag. Considering a rear rack, not for panniers but to strap compact sleeping bags/mats (i.e. little weight but some bulk) to the top platform.
    Thermals and hat for sleeping!

  • Llanberis is reachable by public transport. I walked from there to tryfan in less than a day. I'm sure it wouldn't take long on bikes.

  • sounds good, so long as you are experienced with the kit.
rack maybe not a good idea unless it is very light and will not rattle loose.

  • great. will pencil it in for april 2019!

  • Sweet! Time to get a full sus.

  • Very nice. Machynlleth is the train station for this hotel.

  • Two and a half weeks to go bump.
If anyone has thoughts on the routes I'm all ears. I might shorten Day 2 to make things a bit more chill.
Also please let me know more if you are in/out.

  • out, final decision.

  • In +1 please, can meet at Merthyr Tydfil station. Will PM my phone number.
