  • . I think the hardest thing will be getting a bike space as I think most trains from York to London will be LNER which requires bookings.

Is tres easy though. I booked some train reservations this morning at KGX. Gave the nice man the train times, got reservations and tickets, didn't even have to pay for the privilege. Obvs I'd bought my 1st Class Advance tickets for myself well in advance.

  • Haha indeed.
There is still a spot on my team*

    *its definitely not my team

  • Then why is it called "Team GoatandTricycle"? 😂😂😂

  • It’s an annogram of;
    inappropriate bicycles merry people

    Edit: everyday sexism

  • I've just checked and that seems to be the case. That would be a shit.

Failure is not an option, so a train from York is the only train I'll be booking though, but we certainly won't all be coming back together.

Looking ahead though, I'm seeing some fares as low as £13.10. Just gonna have to book using the cjr method. Patent pending.

  • If you call up to make a reservation for bike and they don't have one for the train you have booked they will move you onto a service which has one I think, worth ringing to check as the rules seem to change all the time!

  • It's gonna be the trickiest part of the whole Arrow.

  • Woah! Everyone chill out.

You can use the GWR website to book LNER tickets and cycle spaces at the same time as soon as advanced bookings open.

I've done this loads of times and it always works out fine.

  • @cjr @hippy @Super_Ted @alialias

Plugging into google maps, the shortest route comes in at 396km. We need a new start point, or an intermediate control between Goole and York to tip us over 400.

PS - I vote Richmond as a start point. 😜

  • @J_a_m_es pretty sure my mum will volunteer to provide proof of passage and cake at Peterborough for both teams. Would that solve your problem?

I can help you route in/out of the city. There's a great cycle path from Whittlesey - basically a small road with no cars.

  • Is this against the rules? Unless she owns a cake shop of course, in which case, we just found our extra 4km.

  • You will need a receipt I would plan to route though places which will have cash machines

  • What’s the score then?

Keen if there is a spot pending dates

Lots of train panic on here. Class 91’s run down the ECML so 3 bike spaces is very academic, I’ve had 17 bikes in the guards van before. Managed 12 on a HST as well, that genuinely has 3 bike spots.

Key is to book up all 3 spots, then contact LNER and let them know what’s happening. They will happily accommodate with enough notice

Anyway, trainbantz aside, what’s the score?

  • my mum will volunteer to provide proof of passage and cake at Peterborough

She has been told that hippy will be along, no?

  • It appears that places on the team arrow are pretty popular and there is now a chance that I will not be able to make it, so I think it's best if I give my place up for someone else. Happy to be considered as a reserve and if I can step in I will.

  • It's easy as long as there are spaces on the train. I assume that there will be quite a few other groups planning on leaving York around the same time. I had to be quite flexible when travelling up to Newcastle when the nationals were on.

  • Starts on Friday 19th April between 6am and 10am (team choice), ends the same time the next morning in York.

    1) hippy (400km lead out man)
    2) j_a_m_e_s (route)
    3) Super_ted (beer carrier 1)
    4) cjr (beer carrier 2)
    5) alialias (confused northerner)

    6) GoatandTricycle (Arrow Team Two captain)
    7) inappropriate_bike (hill-finder general and filler of forms)
    8) ruserius (is this the fixed-friendly team?)
    9) dibs (also fixed)
    10) Ecobeard (riding in the direction of home)

    1. CONTROLS Each team member shall obtain proof of passage at the starting point and each designated control in the form of a stamp, ATM or till receipt.

    2. SUPPORT No following cars are allowed. Teams may only meet a support car at the designated controls. No rest stop may exceed two hours.

So I think a private control is fine (unless it has wheels). I'm sure I've read about the ACME teams stopping at various audaxer's houses before. If not, may need an ATM receipt from the town. But I will check.

  • Lfgss Arrow Team 1 - Drunk and Disorderly

    5) available (if we can get a tandem, that would be great!)

Reserve 1) cjr (doesn't want to carry Hippy's beer) 😀

    6) GoatandTricycle (Arrow Team Two captain)
    7) inappropriate_bike (hill-finder general and filler of forms)
    8) ruserius (is this the fixed-friendly team?)
    9) dibs (also fixed)
    10) Ecobeard (riding in the direction of home)

  • Did someone say team 1 was taking a flatter route?

  • 1600m of climbing in 400km is basically down hill. It appears that most of the climbing is in Essex which is where I ride if I’m feeling lazy.

  • If we get a tailwind, I don't intend on pedalling from Bury to Goole.
Currently looking at saddles with backrests and poufs.
