Got ya. Figured as much. Just trying to work out if I bother using a bag drop or stick with my normal but less comfortable method of carry everything I need.

Okay, I'll open myself up to scorn and ridicule.
Boat Trip - why is it called the Boat Trip? What significance has it got?
Quick route nonetheless, requiring just 4jam sandwiches, a bag of skittles, 3l water and some lucozade.

Doesn't it visit some waterways or somefink?

"A ride out from Hillingdon (NW London) across the rolling Buckinghamshire countryside to The Boat Inn"
" lunch at the canalside Boat Inn. The afternoon stop is another canelside cafe, The Bluebell Cafe"

Makes sense now. I think. 😲
I bounced all the controls, just stopping for refills and pee breaks. And a jam sandwich break too.Looking at the gps tracks, I seem to have rerouted at a couple of controls - hope I'm close enough. Suddenly November's RRtY isn't as done as I thought.

I've done quite a few Boat Trips DIY coz I live nearish the start and I had no idea :)

My first time - I bought the brevet before I started my AAA shenanigans, so it's about 18months old.
Ditching Devil is still easier for me to get too, but I think I'm going to try out a DIY 300 to Oxford and back via Lambourn next. Should be a quick one and not leave me too tired for work. If it works well (which it should as I'm splicing together parts of two perms)I'm going to be racking up the points. 💯

The point chasing thing is a nice idea but it's hard to do when I'm racing CTT events and ultras right in the juicy part of the season! I was keen to do a 600 before xmas and it got to cold but pricks in cars fucked that idea up (guess I could take the TT bike out again).
I liked Boat Trip because it was DIY by GPS so not really any admin for me.

That's the joy of not being quick - no temptation to race.
Although I would like to bang out a 300 this season in 200 time. I'd be happy with that. -

It varies. I used it on Bryan Chapman in 2011 and didn't have to wait. I think people did have to wait on lel.
I wouldn't bother with a bag drop nowadays as I would worry too much about it going wrong. -

I'll get the TT bike off the turbo and tow you around :)

Having a look at all the DIY info on the audax website but cant seem to figure this out. How much time do you have to leave between completing the entry form and starting your ride?
Can I enter on Friday and ride the morning after on Saturday?
What if I wake up early and fancy grabbing points, could I ride on the same day? -
• #8490
As little time as you want if it's DIYxGPS (I don't do the other one so I don't know about specifying checkpoints, etc).
You normally specify a start time, but then just email the organiser when you actually start if it changes, ie. you couldn't do it Sat so you decide to do it Sunday or next week or whatever.

Brilliant.
Does this hold up for Perms? Or is it easier to just steal a perm route and DIY it? -

Yes, I often do this
could I ride on the same day?
This I havent done yet but dont see why not

I don't think I quite understand Permanent events
For example:
http://www.aukweb.net/perms/detail/AC15/
Does this have a fully defined route? Or do you just have to ride between the controls? -
• #8494
do you just have to ride between the controls?
Isnt that audax in general?
-
• #8495
I've always followed a provided .gpx file, and figured before (and still is now) that there was a routesheet which gave you pretty exact directions
-
• #8496
when you enter you'll might get some kind of advised route (maybe just a routesheet, sometimes a gpx file) from the org. it's shit and annoying though.
-
• #8497
is it easier to just steal a perm route and DIY it?
yes. but some orgs get a bit huffy about this
-
• #8498
What's annoying? The lack of easy availability of the route?
-
• #8499
with calendar events normally you'll be able to see the exact route somewhere beforehand. with perms this sometimes isn't the case, and you'll only discover the route after you've entered.

Being a good little boy, I always do the Perm the way the owner intended.
This is why I do more DIYxGPS than Perms but every now and then a Perm piques my interest.
Yes.
They usually set off back to the start with the bags when the control closes.
So if it's a control late in the route and you are moving fast, you can end up waiting.
