Strange one to report, and could be tempting fate a bit much but thought it would be interesting to some, especially those who are looking to buy but concerned about theft.
I keep my Bullitt in the bike store at the back of the underground carpark of my building. You need a building fob to enter, but that hasn't stopped people from breaking the door to get in and steal bikes throughout the summer.
First they stole all of the Bromptons and a cervelo s3.
They then stole all the alloy race bikes and in the process completely destroyed someones brand new Specialised Allez trying to break a cheap lock by twisting the frame.Not once have they even batted an eye at my Bullitt or tried to remove parts from it.
They are capable of cutting a New York D-Lock as there are many left over as evidence from other thefts, but my bike now sits in a room of rusty old abandoned bikes that aren't of any interest to them.I took out insurance with Hiscox immediately after the first theft. Sadly I cant get the thing back upstairs into my flat without dismantling it and i do like to use it every few days, but generally i think its safe from theft, (they wouldn't know what to do with it or how to ride it out i presume.)

This. I´ve had an LHT with cheapo bits, a pub bike and a Wallaroo (the Manlier version of the Bullit) parked outside the house for years. Last year the two other bikes were finally nicked but the family bus is still there even though it´s not locked.

I wouldn't want to rely on that, mind - cargo bikes were occasionally nicked in Cambridge when I lived there, and I've seen the odd theft report from London's famous London too. Where I think you're probably safer is that a cargo bike's a bit long and heavy to chuck in the back of a van, especially if the back wheel's immobilised with a frame lock. I use a BFO chain and the frame lock, which has worked so far.

Cargo bike theft is getting bad in Europe, loads been reported on FB and forums especially in Germany.
One turned up on a for sale page in Romania this week. -

i had the rear brake (calliper, hose and lever) stolen from my bullitt, even the grips. the bike was locked and under a cover, i wouldn't assume that because its a cargo bike that no one would steal it. i think the only reason they didn't take the whole bikes is that i had two locks around the frame, it also has security skewers on the wheels. i think most of the thieves are opportunists, the only reason they didn't steal my front brake (they tried) is because the could get the calliper through the frame without un-attaching the hose. i love having a bullitt but its a pain to store as its too big for most bike racks and after recent events i have to life it over into my ground floor balcony every time i use it.

yeah, for the full rear brake, labour it was £180. its was a real pain and to make things worth i was insured and the insurance didn't cover removable parts which made me laugh. it was pedalsure - warning dont use those clowns

Sorry to hear that Matt. Make sure you cancel your policy when it's up for renewal. Mine is under my home insurance but to be honest I have not seen the small print.
The idea that cargo bikes are less stolen than regular bikes is a bit strange. They are expensive, of course they'll be targeted by thieves. And from what I have seen here the expensive stuff is targeted by people with equipment good enough to go through motorbike locks and who probably have vans too. If they are sold abroad it would suggest an export network as well. -

Put some gears on the omnium over the weekend. The last time I set up gears it was a pair of thumb shifters 15years ago. 1x11 was so easy, watch a YouTube and there you have it perfect shifts every time.

well, I did 250 miles on it singlespeed, the gearing(38X15) was fine with a load on what hills we have on the south coast. The issue was how slow it felt on the flat, it was just too spinny.

Looks great! Singlespeed not ideal for cargo bikes, especially when gravity and heavy loads combine. You'll be able to pull away from lights nice and quickly now without spinning like a bastard on the flats... Enjoy! Our cargo bike makes me smile every time I ride it :)

Hey guys,
A mate of mine, that's not on the forum, has a Crust Clyydesdale fork that he wants to sell. I thought I'd ask on here incase anyone wants it before Ebay.It's mint condition and he'd like £150 for it (which is a bargain as that's cheaper than they cost plus he had to pay an extra £80 import for it).

That's interesting! We never lock the bikes we use for for work up. Just leave them sitting around unlocked on the streets of Leeds when we're making drops. We've never had one go missing, have had a couple of cases of kids taking them for joy rides and one case of me having to leg it down the street after one very wobbly pissed lad who gave the bike up as soon as I grabbed him. I wonder why it is that they're so unappealing to thieves?

Spotted a recumbent dhl cargo bike today, pretty jokes. Though I guess he needs rear view mirrors as his vision is obstructed by a massive box. Think it had three wheels... can’t remember
