Tell them you're not interested in taking part; ONS surveys are voluntary. I was considerably less polite than that when they asked me, but it's up to you how nicely you want to decline. The important thing is that everybody should refuse to give information to the government, they only ever use it to accrete power to themselves and thereby steal it from you.

The past few days I've had a note through my door (on official looking headed paper) saying I've been selected by the office of national statistics to take part in one of their surveys.
I had someone call at my door this evening (laminated pass and whatnot) saying that they were from the ONS and wanted to interview me. I said it wasn't convenient (I was eating my tea) and they said we could do it by phone tomorrow.
It seems kosher but obviously a bit wary of giving out personal info. Any thoughts?
