  • From what I’ve read Dombrowski gutted the farm system to build this team, so not sure how they replenish the team, unless they are trading for prospects..
I’d assume there will be pressure to keep the band together and try to repeat, and rely on Cora to get the best out of his players...

  • In the article I linked to upthread, you don't give late-career Dombrowski a call for a 5-year rebuild plan.
John Henry was probably as surprised as anybody that the '13 Red Sox won. They were a good team, but without that Ortiz Grand Slam, Detroit (& Dombrowski), were looking good for a World Series appearance.

John Henry & Dave Dombrowski go back to Expansion-era Florida Marlins in 1997

so I reckon any cashing in of the Farm System for trades was fully approved by 'management'.
Given the strength and the youth of the Yankees John Henry may have determined that '18 was the last chance for 4 or 5 years for the Red Sox to obtain homefield advantage through the postseason.

  • But the thing is dombrowski’s got his World Series ring, validation for his methods and now has to do it again. Boston isn’t one of those sports town that will wail and moan if they have to do a rebuild, as long as the fan base can see some method in the madness (see celtics under Danny ainge, once they traded the core of their 2008??? Championship team). He’ll be given time if deadwood needs to be shipped out. The issue is, whether the best team in baseball this season and possibly one of the best teams ever needs a tear down after just winning the World Series?
