I am notoriously awful.

No, I'm back in the PNW.
But I'll be in the uk in the spring if you want to ride -

Apparently my cables are a crime against humanity, so I need to get those shortened forthwith.
I will however fiercely resist moving my brake levers to a horizontal position.
The pedals do make me feel a deep, corrosive shame - but they're a means to an end.
I am very much enjoying learning to MTB, it's currently the only cycling I do - the rest of the time I am running (away from being fat, mainly).

Thru-axles: I'd like to get a non-QR front thru-axle, will any 15mm/boost thru-axle do?
My previous experience says no, as the thread pitch doesn't seem to be constant, but that was with road forks so hope springs eternal.

Don't make me buy 20 thru-axles to find the truth.
-
• #808
It's all you fault if I've just bought the wrong one.

Let the shedding of weight commence.

It's actually so I can leave the bike on the roof-rack whilst having breakfast. Weight gaining!

Everything crossed for you.

In all seriousness though, forks are the easier end. Not many manufacturers so not many different sizes. It's the back that's the problem as different drop outs/frame brands require different lengths.

I was very happy with my matching DT Swiss thru-axles, then bought a Trail Donkey fork that used a 15mm thru-axle with a totally different thread, so I had to use a non-matching one. The humanity!

What would be a similar bike to my Scalpel SE, for a keen price, for a 5'6" woman?

In b4 Schick. I mean Nahguavkire.

Actually, 27.5 or 29' wheels for 5"6"?
-
• #820
Maybe buy Howard's Trigger.

• #821
If he can stop it creaking....
-
• #822
27.5 might give more options, but either wheel size should be fine.
-
• #823
29 for rolling xc rides, I’d go smaller for trails as you want it to be more chuckable in corners.

Ok, hit me with some links please chaps - I had a look at Pauls Cycles but could not see anything that struck me as entirely suitable.
Buy me some bread pudding and I'll tell anybody anything ;-)
