Regarding switching mortgage providers, I presume everyone asked their current provider if they could match? I managed to get another 5 year with Nationwide at a very good rate which saved a lot of hassle switching.
-
• #25729
Yeah. Unless you have serious beef with the current provider or they can't do a similar deal I'd always go with them first.
Devil is in the detail though, things like ERCs and porting come in to play.

Happily just completed on a place but needs a bit of a revamp on the bathroom (read ripping out and replacing). Anyone know any plumber/bathroom fitters in SE? Or has anyone used any of the big companies B&Q, Wickes etc?

Ovo have now resolved the dispute; I'm over £200 in credit and have agreed to reduce my direct debit by 70%.
They are also going to install a smart meter next week.
Fairly happy with the outcome.

Ready to exchange on a house but now the lender is insisting on going back to the valued over a tiny right of way issue. They won’t come back with a decision for a week, meanwhile the vendor is on the verge of pulling out because he can only afford his new build until the end of this month when the discount expires.
Fun and games.

• #25741
Can you get an indemnity on it? Preempt any crap from the lender
-
• #25742
We have stat decs saying the right of way isn’t an issue. Unlikely the valued will push back. It’s simply a timing matter now.

Aaron Ford (disclaimer he's a friend of mine but he'd be able to provide you with plenty of references.)
He doesn't have a website but uses his personal instagram to update on projects mostly via stories but there's some bits up there to give you an idea of what he and his partner are like -

Cheers for that! have dropped him a PM... looks like a smart/decent chap, fingers crossed he's interested in the work.

Our building survey report red flagged noise levels, apparently the walls are thinner than current standards (the house was build in 1890, go figure). Apparently the surveyor could hear the next door neighbours.
My gf and I have previous with noisy neighbours and are sensitive towards the subject. We aren't allowed any more than 30 mins access to the property, and must be accompanied by the estate agent, I doubt we will be able to accurately assess ourselves in such a short window.
Would it be appropriate to knock on my prospective neighbours to introduce our selves and get their views? Or is this uncouth? Has any body introduced themselves to future neighbours before in such a manner?

• #25747
I have, but thats just me, not sure I'd trust much of what I do...
-
• #25748
How did they take it? Yeah BMXers are generally uncouth I think I need a second opinion
-
• #25749
Well I didn’t really go round and ask them if they were noisy dicks, but did stop and speak to neighbors outside their houses. All very pleasant.

fair enough. I'll wear my Sunday best and leave my dog at home...
Fixed term 5 year is what we're moving to. Just £1400. Seems pretty steep
