    I think I should probably hold out for a pm I own and take risks with that will come along with recovery/rehabilitation, would hate to scuff up, drop, badly install or crash someone else's brand new cranks! But thank you again for the offer, it is incredibly kind and very much appreciated.

  • Pedal based PMs - thinking about taking the plunge on the Vector 3s - how have people found them? Seem very well reivewed - and apart from meaning I'll need a new head unit (stupid budget Edge 25), not too ball bustingly expensive. I keep telling myself if I use GC and not Zwift/TR, its basically the same cost as the Vectors on finance...

  • Looks like we'll soon have a new spider-based power meter on the market from Ridea, the SPM2. Looks like it'll about the same price as the P2M though, if not more once you add taxes and shipping.

  • Ridea. Taiwanese bike component company. I don't think they have a UK retailer. They make some nice parts, but the aesthetics can be a bit challenging/garish.

  • I’m looking at getting a power meter. I have just the one bike, which is a disc road bike.
    I’m leaning towards a power-tap either hub or pedals dual sided.
    I’ve come to this decision as I’m right sided dominant and the left only, sounds like it might not be very good, especially for right side dominant people.
    However dual sided is obviously much more spendy. Any other considerations?

  • I wouldn't say it has to be much more spendy. Have a look at the P2M NGeco, if you buy spider only it's comparable with some Left only units. Also look at Quarq, the Dzero crank is sub £500 on CRC.

    If you do decide on hub, expect a new disc version G4 to be out soon (ok maybe early 2019). I think the current G3 requires proprietary rotors.

    They've turned round my requests for prices by stating BLB are their UK agent, despite BLB only featuring some fixed items, and my enquiries being about road components.

  • I did wonder if a new power tap hub was due. As they seem to be a little thin on the ground. You are correct about the disc too.
    Ok I’ll have a look at those.
    Are the accuracies (or in) as bad as they seemingly are made out?
    Also does it really matter? Presumably consistency of reading is more important for training.

  • Which one is inconstant? From what I gather all those mentioned (P2M, Quarq and Powertap) have a good reputation.

  • Do you still have just the one bike? A disc powertap will mean you'll only be able to use that wheel on frames that can accommodate them. Which is fine if you don't plan on n+1, but Powertap pedals would be a good choice if you want to do a turbo session on your TT bike (for example) one day and then go on a long Sunday ride on your disc road bike the next.

  • Hands orf, they're all mine. Proper hub service or just a NDS bearing replacement? IME rough running on a Powertap hub is invariably the NDS bearing which is rather undersized (cos of all the electronics around it) and quite exposed.

  • Paligap service. It's reading too high. Bearings are fine*.

    Fine on hippy's bikes is somewhere between brand new and completely toast but not yet making enough noise to warrant changing the melted mess of steel out.

  • Yep, likely to stay that way unless, I manage to get in to TCR and there is all sorts of gravel. Can’t see me ever being in to TT’ing. Hill climbs maybe.
    But maybe pedals is a better option...
    The battery life seems quite short though.

  • Looks like there are a couple of new P2M Track PMs on the horizon. NG and NGeco models, 144bcd with Rotor ALDHU 3D+ cranks.

    Not listed on the UK site yet though...
