Thing is, I’d think about it (and consider it normal and fair) if I intentionally bought from a source outwith the uk/eu.
-
• #1353
Yeah I’ve even bought stuff that’s said it was shipping uk held stock from a uk address and then when the tracking details are added you can see it’s coming from the other side of the planet.
That was low value stuff so no import charges but it annoys me that I’ve intentionally looked for uk stock from a uk seller etc to try and get an item quickly and avoid the environmental impact of flying an item round the world only to get sucked into doing so anyway.

There’s tracking on eBay. It was seeing Shehnzen on the tracking that alerted me to the fact I’d cocked up and bought from China.
Guess it might not be tracked once it gets over here.

Yeah, unfortunately it requires you to go into each listing to view the registered address, or look at the seller's page for "Took AGES to arrive from China" type feedback :/
-
• #1356
Ah well. Small consolation but normally Chinese sellers mark the customs slip as a gift or commercial sample to bypass customs anyway...
-
• #1357
Yeah...fingers crossed.

Not eBay but found this amusing
-

I wonder what goes through these people's heads when they do something like that?

• #1360
Daylight, probably.

I've had an offer accepted on a frame but the guy wants me to buy it through a link to Polish eBay now, lower commission for him apparently.
Dodgy? Or common practice?
He has good feedback. -
• #1362
dodgy.
-
• #1363
Sounds odd. I’ve never been charged more by eBay/PayPal due to the seller being outside the U.K.
I definitely wouldn’t use the link he has sent you. Find it yourself on Polish ebay and buy it now.

I've found it on Polish eBay.
The seller seems legit, but I can't understand anything, obviously.
Akwarium_hobby is the guy's name. -
• #1365
Buy it via the UK site, there is no difference in commission unless that link he has sent is to a dodgy site etc.
-
• #1366
eBay commission can be lower on polish site.
For example, french ebay is 8%. EBay. com is 10% -

Not sure if this is an issue or things just being late. Bought some cranks on eBay on Monday, the seller said they were dispatched on Tuesday, on Wednesday morning the tracking code says that they've got it, but I've had no update since then. Seems odd. Is something amiss, or is Royal Mail just being very slow? Anyone experienced anything like that before?

Buy through eBay UK and get Quidco cashback :P

In the end I bought through my app. He'd listed it again, so it came up at the price I offered under items from sellers abroad or however they word it.
Seller seems legit, he's got bags of positive feedback and at least I can go through the proper channels if there is a problem.
Thanks for all the input everyone.Edit: @Pifko bah, just seen this! I did get 10% discount with the code PUMPKINS though.

I wanted to buy something but the auction ended and I forgot to bid on it (no one else bid on it either). How can I contact the seller/buy it without eBay telling me off for avoiding fees?
-
• #1371
See if they have other items for sale, then use the contact seller then the "other" option to ask the seller about the original item.
-
• #1372
^ this. I have successfully asked a seller to relist an expired item with a BIN price before in exactly this way.
-
• #1373
Okay, that's the way to go then. Hopefully they'll do it at a lower price too :)

Wondering the possibility of a huge favour;
I’ve won a bike from a seller which listed in the description they would post it (after getting quote etc) and now have messaged to say that it’s too much hassle getting a box, packing and arranging etc
Could argue with eBay and the seller but it’s likely to just get cancelled. Should the seller not budge; would anyone be willing to pick it up as a substitute and have a courier collect it from them?
Would be repayed for time spent / beers / whatever
Bike is based in bristol and would need posting to london
Doubt it will be tracked, leaves you the option to not pay duty/collect and claim for non-delivery via eBay.
Royal Fail normally add on an extra £8 "processing fee" for customs fees which boils my piss too...
