I've seen people do it with sram bar-ends. At least the 10-speed ones should work with 10-speed mtb rear deraileurs.
Crank/NW depends on you budget and what size chainring you want and if you care about q-factor. I have friends who run both Sram's own chainrings and AbsoluteBlack ones, so I feel comfortable recommending either of those.
You can probably get away with 60mm/2.35".
And the easiest 1x setup is sram. I'm running x7.2 RD and gx 10-speed shifter on one of my bikes. Totally painless to setup.
Be sure to get a NW-chainring though or get ready to but your chain back on all the time.
