  • That'd be perilous given stopping zone at bottom, quiet but fast road that an out of control person would be out into!

  • Ah yes. Flat for flat is ok prep. Hills planned & ran correctly will build strength which will help too.

  • Sounds like you're on way to recovery, hope that works out ok.

  • After Mara it's amazing how appreciative some folks are of it!

  • Not arthritis, but a couple of years back I stood on glass and severed my big toe tendon (the fhl). For a while I wore Hoka Cliftons, as they're extremely stiff shoes and there's basically no bend at the front of the foot. The shoe itself has a curve, so you rock up on the shoe rather than bending your toes if that makes sense.

I never really got on with the shoes but they were effective in minimising toe joint movement. Might be worth a try? I still have them, just use them occasionally for recovery type runs - size 44 or 44.5 i think if you wanted to try them out and the size worked

  • That's kind of you - thanks. I'm not sure that restricting movement is beneficial as arthritis doesn't heal, or that's my understanding of it anyway - which i'd be the first to admit is hazy and incomplete.

  • I'm not sure how often I've posted about this.
I've got psoriatic arthritis, it's managed by a pretty heavy batch of methotrexate and a biological agent called benepali.
Thanks to this pretty awesome combo, I can do as much as I want to.

I have to make sure my shoes fit and I ease into things and stop if it's sore. And rest.

  • Yeah, it’s not so much restricting movement - not like you’re putting your foot in a cast for a day - just minimising how much movement is actually needed and how much pressure goes through the toe over the course of a run.

But I know absolutely nothing about arthritis I’m afraid!

  • Well, this definitely isn't cross country weather. I have packed racing flats and track spikes as well, so the 15mm spikes will stay in hibernation for a few weeks longer.

  • It's tropical up here but brutal wind. X-Talon for me.

    Enjoy xc'ers.

  • Have fun XC'ers, even if it's not muddy fun! A nice easy 5 miles for me this morning, pre-Great Eastern Run HM tomorrow.

  • another 2 weeks of no running... = no gainz today... still happy :) was interesting having volunteer pacemakers today...

  • I had a good run at MACCL. Here's my hr effort, which was pretty much spot on. Just tiring in the last couple of minutes but luckily no-one close by chasing for places.

Edit: results up, top 60 of appx 440, i'll take that.

  • I sound like a steam train when running at 165bpm+

  • That could help clear other runners out the way in a race!

  • I had a rare night out with my girlfriend last night, and tried to clear the hangover with a jog to parkrun. My head was still spinning a bit at the end, but after jogging the long way home I was as right as rain.

    Shocking time though

  • Hungover running is brutal.

Nice work in the x country @rhb. I finished in a similar position, 63rd, but fewer runners and just outside the scoring 10. We were second overall behind Hercules Wimbledon who are gunning to take us down this year.

The race itself was on a rock hard Richmond Park. Many people just wore racing flats. I felt good until about 4.5 miles when my stomach got really tight and sore.

Good luck to any half marathoners out there today @PhilPub

  • Does anyone suffer from fixations or repetitions when they're out running? Particularly in the latter miles of a long run.
Was out 13 miles this morning, and for the last 3 miles, I couldn't stop pronouncing the fucking words 'Mulligatawny soup'.
For me, I always get words stuck in my head that I find infuriating to pronounce. I've had it numerous other times, but can't remember the words.

  • Haha. Yes. Lots of times a very short phrase or few words, often in time with the tune of an annoying song. Drives me mad.

  • Cheers. The RP course looked fun with looking straights!

I was first counter for club, I think we should be mid div 2 finish if we all turnout all season.

  • I once spent a few hours running in the peaks trying to remember what the hovering warbling birds around me (skylark) were called. Was driving me bonkers.

  • I find running with headphones/music stops the mental-fugue fairly well. I never used to do it but now usually stick the headphones in my shorts pocket when I head out.

  • @rhb @jb000 This worst part is, it starts to affect my run, or pushes me, I can't work it out.

  • Smashed my PB today in the MCR Half Marathon, my knees are ruined now though.
