  • Did some reading up on that taxi and the specs

The website claims 377 miles per charge / tank. According to the internet a cabbie does about 30k miles per year =  82 miles per day if s/he drives everyday.

No idea if 82 miles per day is close to the truth (could be per driver, so 250ish miles per day for the car), but looks like it could be a great option to the usual diesel stonkers.

update: It's not 100% electric but a hybrid

  • Replacement parts might be difficult to find....no sure how unique it is.

Wish I had the money to buy and use, something happens and walk away with out a care.

  • You do have a child, and the car isn't on your drive.

Is it organise a weekend and turn up mob handed? Even just to take the piss?

  • I'm definitely spotting a surge in popularity over the last month or so. Fingers crossed there'll be a tipping point in the next year where it's harder to find a diesel one than an electric.

The taxi driver who lives down my street has just got one as well.

It was so much nicer to be a passenger in one than the diesel ones. Super quiet, loads of room, better ride quality, more light in the back etc etc. Would travel in again.

  • Clean air central london rules and tax and price advantages.

  • took the little car for the longest drive since I had it this weekend. Dalston to Dungeness. Tent in the back seat along with two Bromptons. quite a squeeze.

but the little car was faultless. including an in excess of three hour constant 60 kmh all the way home. love this little fella

  • and randomly there was some Aston Martin meet up on Sunday at the Woolpack Inn in Stone-cum-Oxney. took just the one pic. but was some pretty special cars there.

and fuck that DB10 up thread. and I regret not taking a photo. but seeing the whole AM history there together made me realise the Vantage is my hands down favourite. but anyway, a nice DB something here...

  • nice DB something here...

    LOL.

Would buy a db5 if I won the lottery.

  • ha yeah. I didn't mean to sound casual. there was some seriously lovely motors there. this one really stood out.

but the four Vantages were what really took my eye.

  • Lovely trip Jonny.

Did you get a Dungeness lobster bap from the shack near where you took that photo?

  • Does look great. Is there still that odd little steam railway in Dungeness? I remember going there as a kid.

  • Yep still there. The Hythe and Dungeness railway.

  • that place was doing good business dude. But no had home made soup in a flask, 1976 style.

  • Thanks fella, and to all of you that have kindly offered to act as my personal taxi - my father in law is apparently more excited than I am, and is planning the trip is astonishing detail...

Cannot frigging wait though. Like a very fat kid, locked in the Foxes biscuit factory for a bank holiday weekend.

  • Excellent. And now I want biscuits for breakfast.

Look forward to hearing review of the drive back in the Alfa

  • The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch railway to us local roadkill-eating peasants. The Woolpack is officially in Brookland, it's a cracking little boozer serving very generous portions of home made food. A visit will guarantee a 2 kilo weight gain. You dazzling urbanites wouldn't like it.

  • Anyone driven around the Lake District? Are the roads fun to drive? I’m heading up there later this year. I have the choice of a practical 4x4 estate or an mx5.

  • Mx5

  • Stay away from Windermere and surrounding area. Although at this time of year it won't be too crowded.

  • Hardknott and Wrynose Pass to poo your pants.

  • Honister is also fun but a bit less terrifying.

Do get out and walk up some hills too. It's an inspirational part of the world.

  • I’m from the Lake District originally, take the MX5

  • I once driver over hardknott at about 3am in some insane weather (having never been before) and then went back in daylight a few weeks later and saw some of the sheer drops we were unaware of.

The birker fell road is good fun and less terrifying.

  • You're best off relaxing and admiring the views.
There's less traffic during the winter months, but ultimately you'll always end up stuck behind someone, and overtaking opportunities are few and far between.
The hillier passes can be unkind to low profile tyres and alloys (if that's what you've got on your MX5) when you have to leave the road to let other cars past; give way to those coming uphill etc.
Yeh, Birker Fell is quieter as it's a bit out in the sticks toward marraland.

  • I once driver over hardknott at about 3 am in some insane weather (having never been before) and then went back in daylight a few weeks later and saw some of the sheer drops we were unaware of.

Used to go over it with my dad when I was a kid camping in Wasdale in a 1 litre Citroen AX, still terrified me when I started seeing the sky on some of the hairpins.

TBF the car is only 640kg unladen.
