Some people do this with something called turkey vulture gearing, unfortunately the website's gone down. But in short 9-speed Deore with long cage should work. Maybe needs a road link thing (£1 on eBay)

This is working quite well, thank you very much!

I run 11 - 32 on deore long cage 10sp. If you get a longer b screw i think you can coerce 34T . I'm sure interwebby has something on this...

Deore will do 34t as standard

I think - not sure but.. might be that the older ones aren't as serviceable as newer ones and end caps not designed to come off in the same way. can't remember where I've got that idea from but i do remember giving up trying to service an old pair some time ago

Does anyone know rough cost of posting a wheelset through royal mail to mainland Britain?

Drilled out the plastic caps (in a rage, and then re-read the service kit instructions afterwards with the note to discard them... phew), put in the new bearings and seals, locked up with new caps (metal, allen-key fixing), nice.
Good as new-ish for £20, will see how they last. These are 10 years old already so have had monies-worth. -

In the case of heterosexuals, there must be couples who got married only because they weren't allowed civil partnerships...
Guilty as charged

Does anyone have one of these screws knocking about or know where I can lay my hands on one? Thank you.

Pedals are a bit close to the ground with 650b on my Velo Orange. Is there such a thing as thin flat pedals (or ones with good ground clearance) that take reflectors? MTB thin ones don't, and I'm hoping not to need to buy shorter cranks, but I like reflectors.

Clipless pedals and shoes with reflective bits

MKS Lambda aren't that thin, but they do have a narrower platform, which would help

I have gone off SPDs after years of using them. Just can't be arsed with the faff of carrying extra shoes everywhere.

Yeah I put these on my wife's bike, guess I could swap them over to try. I like the V8 copies I'm running at the moment but they are way wide and thick.

On my 650b conversion I had a lot of pedal strike initially even with V6s, which are the nylon body version of the new, thinner DMRs. Then I got used to it somehow and no more scraping. Also all the outside pins ground off. Plastic pedals are a bit less scary in that regard.
Could always use 3M reflective tape on something thinner?
Still annoyed that the compact/concave version of the VP Harrier doesn't seem to be available. Looks like the perfect touring pedal.

Northwave boa shoe.
The wheelie bit can pop up and all tension disappears under stress sometimes, I see you cx Herne hill. Can I replace/do something to stop this or buy new shoes? -

Looks like the V6 are available with a weird integrated reflector, may be worth trying. Other option is to go from 172.5 to 165 cranks which would probably make all the difference, but ++ expense and hassle...

Either set up too high
You answered this question months ago but I finally got round to testing it and you were right. Had to file the braze on slot a bit to get the derailleur lower, but since I did the chain hasn't dropped once. Thanks!

Feels good to be right, doesn't happen often.
I am always surprised how many bikes I build that shift well in the stand and not on the road.
I tend to ride them all for a couple of miles to let it all settle and re-adjust.Glad it works fine without dropping!
Friction?
