Why does every helpdesk person I speak to use 'M for Mother'

If they're constantly talking to yoofs who have never learned the ICAO version, they probably get a lot of idiots being told "M for Mike" and hearing "N for Nike" 🙂

Yeah the JTek one looks very solid. It's the 'Problem Solver' one that has some dubious reviews...

If only I was still in my old lab, I would literally just make my own JTek knock-off! Not so easy now unfortunately.

Shimano's design caused me issues with the same brakes. The above is a superior design in my opinion.

You'd never hear "M for Mike" though, if you know the NATO alphabet you'd just spell and say "Mike Uniform Mike" for example. "S for sugar" anyone?

I beg to differ. The design used on the CX70, or the very under-rated R550s is the easiest to set-up as it takes a lot of the guess work out and it's always centered.

EDIT: that design could slip without housing though.

I should have posted a picture of my shimano stx brakes. They came with the little tubes but were brittle and perished when I cleaned them up

What to do with an aluminium frame that cannot be repaired?
Bin? Scrap merchants?

I was planning on throwing my old Alu frame (15 year old hybrid piece of crap) in the 'scrap metal' skip at my local council waste/recycling/reuse tip.

First I was going to try and teach my daughter a bit of bike maintenance stuff by stripping the frame completely of all of the bits (several bits to keep but most to throw).

My tire is moving on my rim, which is dragging the inner tube causing a split where the valve joins the tube. Its moved this much in a couple of days. Would a replacement tire help? I've spent a small fortune in tubes.

hand pump, but i d0nt think im inflating them any less than i have at any time previously. i will test the psi with a track pump and revert back.

Am assuming you get about 50 psi with hand pump.

I ran my last daily bike with a chain guard (SKS Chainboard), which attaches via a bracket that's clamped between the drive side BB cup and the frame. That bike had a square taper BB and that never caused any issues (after I had tightened it up properly). My new daily bike has external BB cups (Hollowtech 2) and I've been advised that it's a bad idea having that type of fixing because there is a risk that the BB cups (and therefore bearings) will end up not being coaxial, which would lead to greater bearing wear and possibly early failure.

Is that true?

That mounts like an e-type derailleur right? So it shouldn't be a problem.

Only thing I'd be concerned about is the thickness of the plate reducing the amount of axle the NDS arm clamps down on to.

Yeah, that was my thinking too. Plus a lot of MTB chain devices are mounted like that on modern MTBs with external bearing cups, so it can't be a totally ridiculous design. One concerns is that the area of the bracket that will be clamped is not totally flat, but has several, regularly-spaced raised areas, presumably to allow them to be slightly compressed and add grip. I wonder if that could result in everything not tightening up straight.

There's actually already 2 spacers between the frame and drive-side BB cup. The design allows for them apparently, so I wouldn't lose any clamping area.

Fuck it just try it. Worst that will happen is that you wreck a £10 BB cup.
