  • It's the arterial route up from the central belt to the west coast. You get a lot of caravans, which backs people up, and the road is not super-wide. The locals "know all the corners", and so tend to drive/overtake much faster than you would think is sensible. (Down the coast to Oban and back over, which looks to be the return from Fort William, is quieter).

    Last time I was up that way, the road surface was also in bad shape, so I suspect on a bike you'd do a lot of dodging.

    I haven't cycled in Romania, so maybe it's mild by comparison.

  • Haha yeah, everyone has different measures of 'busy' or 'risky'.
    Assuming something like Devon. I can't say I enjoyed riding up the A30 which is dual lane but the small-dicked wonderbuckets that insist on passing caravans as the caravans are trying to safely go around me, forcing them back inwards, made for some fun times. Romanian dogs took five years off my life.
