Just visited the Deanston Distillery in Doune for the £9 tour.. got me a bottle of this, I’m overcome with vapours and nostalgia.. Leonardo diCaprio was here last year buying 12 bottles of the other more expensive stuff

I have a wedding to attend later this year, near Dumfries (near is a relative term...)
Flying into Glasgow, picking up a rental car, driving down to Dumfries.
Hoping to pit stop in a distillery with a tour/store to grab a couple of bottles of the good stuff.
Anyone know of any in that vague area?
(Between Glasgow and Dumfries) -

Auchentoshan is just north of the airport. I'd hit that and then turn around. Or Glengoyne is a bit further but worth the trip...though perhaps not if you have to drive afterwards. Otherwise, I don't think there's anything of note south of Glasgow.

Coolio, will investigate.
Fortunately I don't know how to drive so DethWife will have the reigns. -

I have map of all the distilleries - let me check when I get home. Harass me by PM if I forget.

Bottle of Green Spot ordered, very much looking forward to trying it.

I can vouch for both the Auchentoshan and Glengoyne tours. Auchentoshan if you can only pick one.
The only distillery south (on the mainland) is Bladnoch and that's closer to Stranraer than Dumfries. It's not one I've tasted so can't help there.

Don't think you'll be disappointed. A fine example of Irish pot still whiskey.
Also fun fact. The names Yellow Spot and Green Spot come from the days of illiteracy when customers used to ask for whiskey by the colour of the 'spot' on the bottles rather than asking for them by brand name.

Just for the record... that wasn't me.
Actually, shit, when did I go through Bardstown?

Enjoying this. Very easy drinking, considering the level of peat smoke. Really helped along with water/ice after the first. I could drink a lot of this with ease.

I picked up a bottle of Laphroaig, as I've previously enjoyed a smokey whisky of unknown provenance, so figured I'd give it a go.
It's certainly has smoke! It's almost medicinal tasting.
Might want to try a little eless peat in my next bottle. -
• #2820
Laphroaig is known for its medicinal and almost TCP character. I love it but it definitely splits opinion.
-
• #2821
I'm enjoying it, will probably keep a bottle in stock for a nice evening tipple. Can see it getting a bit of a bashing, it's so easy to drink
-

Laphroaig is the most easily accessible Islay whisky, virtually every good bar has it.
Watching some bar staff trying to find it on the shelf when you ask for it can be amusing.
-
• #2823
Although the Aldi Islay is well worth buying. Not quite as TCP peat as Laphroaig but peaty enough.

Nice group, but In my opinion don't sit on them too long. More than 6 months at with half gone and the taste will degrade, get a bit musty and generally lose freshness. Cruel I know, especially for the expensive bottles, but once it's open its best to drink in fairly short order instead of collect

hey, I'm after some nice rye/bourbon. My sister is in NY at the mo and she owes me favour for driving her to the airport at 3am. What can she get me in NY that I can't get or afford over here?
thinking about the £30 mark, thats the price of woodford reserve in saino's at the mo!
A nikka blend. That finished now. So now I am polishing off another nikka.
Fortunately were not in a trade war with Japan. There whiskey is lovely.
When this is gone I'll start on something else. Anyone tried french whiskey?
