It's good all the same that a well-known brand is doing this. (I haven't tasted Hellmann's vegan mayonnaise yet.)

Taste test win against this and tesco own brand effort. Bit stronger flavour (more vinegar) but I don’t mind that :)

Budapest is full of vegan restaurants. They all seem to be closed on Sundays though...

I've just come back from cycling around the Netherlands which is unbelievably good. 750km in 5 days which often felt like an audax, riding to the next place to buy food. The vegan food I ate everywhere was excellent. Opening hours of vegan specific places, I guess like any shops, were limited, but the vegan options at other places were all great. The kind of food that doesn't feel like an afterthought to a menu. I ate quite a few falafel wraps at late night places, again all unique and exceptionally good. Eventually worked out that takeaway cakes travel well!

Feels like dairy is such a massive cultural thing for the dutch. I saw this Oatly ad everywhere but this was certainly the biggest, dominating one of the two main bridges in Rotterdam.

Vegan chocolate.
Can anyone explain how some chocolate gets the Vegan symbol then says Warning: may contain nuts and milk etc.?
I appreciate that they are produced in a factory where there may be trace elements and it's on the label for those who have allergies so they can avoid,BUT, how can it be vegan if there is that chance there will be milk in it?

by that rational though any non exclusively vegan restaurant couldn't claim to make vegan options.
Vegan classification is more along the lines that no non-vegan items iare used in the actual production of the item itself. if you were that careful to say it can't possibly come across contaminates in any shape or form then you'd likely find that the amount of vegan labelled items available would dwindle massively.
here's the criteria for the vegan trademark
Kitchen and hygiene standards
Dishes that are to be labelled vegan must be prepared separately from non-vegan dishes. As a minimum surfaces and utensils must be thoroughly washed prior to being used for vegan cooking. We strongly recommend that a separate set of utensils be procured for this purpose. Be aware of the risk of cross-contamination from non-vegan sources in your kitchen, and take all reasonable practical steps to eliminate this.https://www.vegansociety.com/your-business/vegan-trademark-standards

Didn't Hellman's try and sue a vegan mayo company stating that they couldn't call it mayo cause it didn't have dairy in it?
Don't quite understand how they can then bring out a mayo that doesn't contain dairy and have the nerve to call it mayo themselves... I'd rather give my money to Follow Your Heart for that fact alone.
Bandwagon much?

Didn’t know that. Now have a bad taste in my mouth :(

Standard boilerplate ass covering in case any cross-contamination kills someone with an allergy. Don’t worry about it.

Why would mayo have dairy in it though?

Thought you lovely folks would be interested to know my sister is opening a vegan cafe in Bath. It's called Cascara and should be open in the next few weeks.
-
• #5368
Great name! They gonna serve Cascara? :)

I have no idea! My sis bought the cafe from a spanish lady so the name pre-dates her ownership. She's only just got the keys last week and now trying to get everything sorted ASAP to open.

Found a very good vegan kiosk in Bratislava today. It’s called Vegan Kiosk. It’s beside Tesco.
